  1. Money launderers gonna launder.
  2. And in transatlantic science news, more than 75 Nobel laureates in the hard sciences have taken the unprecedented step of writing a letter to Congress urging them not to confirm RFK Jr. as the DoH head. The Trump team response? “Americans are sick and tired of the elites telling them what to do and how to do it. Our health care system in this country is broken, Mr. Kennedy will enact President Trump's agenda to restore the integrity of our health care and Make America Healthy Again.” Nothing says owning the "elites" like the freedom to choose suffering and death (and crushing medical debt because, you know, this is the US) in spite of the most exacting scientific evidence and expertise, not only for yourself but for everyone else, right?
  3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjdne9ke0m1o Burning wood at home produces more pollution than road traffic, according to new research. The findings, from the University of Birmingham, show a quarter of harmful particles in the air, known as PM2.5s, come from domestic fires while traffic is responsible for 22%. Wood-burning stoves have risen in popularity in the UK with an estimated 1.9m homes now having one, according to the Stove Industry Alliance. One campaigner from Birmingham said she was worried the effect they were having on children and others with health issues. Rather dark props to the guys who managed to market these as "clean" or whatever; a truly majestic falsehood to sell.
  4. While this is 100% true, it might be added that there are human rights that are a matter of (pretty much) universal agreement and binding international treaty, rather than varying by place.
  5. Right. It is, funnily enough, possible to put both Claudio and Pearson on a pedestal for different reasons and view them as equally valuable to the success of the club without considering one "better" than the other. And get well soon, Nigel.
  6. *insert commentary about Overton Window here*
  7. RFK looking to bring back belief in the "research" of "Doctor" Wakefield, then. Measles epidemic in the US, anyone?
  8. Better to wait until the man actually appears in court to cast many aspersions at all, I would think. Details about the bloke taken in are still rather thin on the ground, either way. The time to hold feet to the fire about it was roughly ten years ago, I think. The genie is out of the bottle, social media soundbites without any stated solutions (or revealing the rather awful nature of said solutions) are now enough to elect and set policy, with all the consequences that entails.
  9. Arrest made in the NY shooting case.
  10. Certainly not, but offering consistent complaints on the problem and no hint of solution does make the complaints seem rather hollow and of less value. Also, the point above about some people not wanting to state their own solution to that problem (and some other problems) because they know people might view implicitly treating the suffering and death of a great many people as just another thing rather dimly still stands.
  11. ... it's almost as if 30p Lee doesn't remember who was responsible for the situation that led to the battle of the Somme. Oddly enough, it wasn't women.
  12. Amen to that. Migration isn't the only issue where it happens, either. Though if I'm totally honest, I think a fair few people do believe they have a solution to these immigration or other issues - they just don't feel comfortable articulating them out loud because they know that they mean a great many people will suffer and die and they don't want to be seen actually advocating for that, even though at a base level the idea doesn't appear to bother them.
  13. Pretty much, yeah. In terms of getting what he wants without really being seen to raise a finger, I would think so.
  14. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpw22ger4gjo $50k reward now. Just about enough to cover an appendectomy or rotator cuff surgery because UHC deemed it "unnecessary", then.
  15. It's interesting how highly Trump appears to view Prince William given their pretty much polar opposite views towards most anything involving humanitarianism and long term future.
  16. And it may well be he can't spare the actual manpower and resources that would be necessary due to Ukraine. I'm sure they'll be trying to reach some kind of deal, yes,
  17. That's entirely plausible.
  18. Yeah, something else I was getting at there. There's not going to be many fence-sitters; you'll have those determined to nullify for the reasons you say, and then those determined to convict. And it only takes one to hang a jury.
  19. ... or they would go for it as an early part of a Riddler storyline where he does his usual misdirection. But in all seriousness, if the motive wasn't abundantly clear before it certainly is now. NB. If they do catch him, it'll be interesting to try to find 12 jurors in all of NY state that haven't already prejudged the case.
  20. I wonder why Putin decided Assad was no longer worth propping up?
  21. Evangelical religious representatives. Antivaxxers and other various talking heads advocating unscientific courses of action that will lead nowhere good.
  22. Tbf Oz, India or any side other than the Saffers playing more than a two match series haven't won in England for over 20 years either, and barring Indias remarkable run last time down under home form terms to run supreme when one of the big 3 turn out. I agree that away series wins in the most difficult places would make this England team memorable among the very best, but those things are rather rare beasts.
  23. Not just on sport, mate. Some of the comments on science related articles make me doubt both my own sanity and democratic systems for policymaking on that topic.
  24. And now they have a reputation that gives them a psychological edge over a lot of the other teams, which at the highest level is so important.
