Problem was  Octopus get telling me Wallbox was compatible.

As I said fair comment re CS,  though it shouldn't have made a difference as the on boarding process would have simply bi-passed the charger and would attempt to contact the vehicle.

Fair enough.  I have a wallbox charger Octopus stated it was compatible.  An electric vehicle (Tesla)  neither were at anytime picked up according to Octopus.  We also had a duel fuel tariff with them and we have smart meters.  They only ever charged us for electricity.  Never Gas?  I had to constantly ring them up giving them Gas readings and sking for them to charge us for Gas as we were duel fuel.  Either they are incompetent or clueless.  As far as I am concerned Octopus energy can take a running jump..

So you were never actually on IOG if you were never able to go through the onboarding process.   All fair comment though as far as CS is concerned,  they should have, at the very least,  been able to explain very clearly to you why things were going wrong,  whether that be at your end or their's.  I know other customers have had the same problem and it can be very frustrating when you haven't got the time to do your own research as I have (Retired).

EDIT,  Checked and the Wallbox is not compatable with IOG though the Tesla of course is.

We have just left Octopus energy.  We were on their Octopus Intelligent go supply and having an electric vehicle was on their ev tariff.  Numerous problems with their so called systems not picking up my charger or vehicle for that matter.  Numerous threats by them to me as they didn't believe I had an electric vehicle.  I even sent them a copy of my V5 with vehicle details on.  Never charged us for gas when we had a dual tariff, owed us £60 when we left them never got it back.  Have complained about them through the Ombudsman.   Be very wary of Octopus energy they are not as good as they make out.  I cringe when that bloody advert comes on on the radio.  Octopus energy my ass!

I am with Octopus on the IOG tariff and all has gone fine for me.  From your post I am not sure you understood how the tariff works.  IOG talks to your Car or to your Charger,  never both. So it should pick up one or the other depending which one you have on boarded to.  Did you successfully go through the on boarding process and did you ever get a schedule that worked.

I am on a few IOG/Octopus forums and so many people come on complaining but on further investigation it is apparent that they have no clue how it is designed to work.  That is not to say though that it is pefect,  it definately is not,  and their customer service can be hit and miss just like nearly every supplier these days.  That is the risk you take though when dealing with what is essentially new tech.

It happened yesterday the main news was about the hurricane in Jamica on ITV and BBC last night they didn't even mention it on ITV news at 10.

Why do you think that it should take precedence over a once in 100 year disaster for the people of Jamaica,  when their were circa 400 murders in the UK in the last year that recieved zero coverage in the national media.

I suspect that many of those 40-50 stabbings were done by non-white people on white people with no victim card being played. This one is highlighted in the public eye due to the current national debate.

The police have learnt to release the details very rapidly in these cases to avoid the online speculation frenzy.

For sure other stabbings by non white people on white people will have occured as will be the case the other way round and I understand why the media have highlighred this case and that is fair comment.  That does not explain why the initial post was made to highlight the MSM not reporting on it,  when they most clearly did.  I maintain my explanation for that.

    pathetic.

Tell me then why do you think you have decided to highlight this one rather than the other 40-50 that have occured this month.  Also why you claimed media were not mentioning it when they very clearly were. Sounds to me like you are playing the white man victim card.

When I was young usually one parent stayed home for the kids (in those days invariably the wife). The difference was, they didn't expect to have the large TVs, the latest mobile, or new clothes every week.

Of course large TVs and mobiles didn't exist then, but most working class families would have a simple black and white TV, use the telephone booth two streets away and repaired clothes and passed them down.

They did this so their kids had enough to eat and a roof over their head. They made sacrifices. Nowadays people spend money on luxury items and expect the state to provide for their essential needs.

This is a generalism, there do, of course, still exist people who make sacrifices for their kids first, even in that case sometimes not being enough.

B&W TV's were unaffordable for the average family when I was born in the 1960's, at around 10 times average weekly earnings. Today you can purchase a large flat screen TV for less than a weeks wage.  Contrast that to the average house price being less than £50,000 in todays money. So today most families need both parents to work just to be able to afford a place to live, which most of us would feel is a nassesity.

Who will buy them when the next generation can’t afford the inheritance tax?

If they cannot afford the inheritance tax when they pass, how are they going to afford to buy them. Most families purchasing farms are not playing millions for them and so are not likely to be subject to HI when they pass them on. In any case there are ways to mitigate HI when passing onto family members (trusts etc).

Really, you do know we are looking at a points deduction for overspending. Like everyone on here I have no idea if he wishes to spend his personnal wealth on this club, but even he wanted to he can't currently do that by spending on players.

Absolutely the above. Your swing will be so unique that a short fitting session will point you towards the right sort of clubs that will help you the best.

My guess would be lightweight graphite shafts, and something very forgiving. Length, lie-angle, and grip size would need to be fitted by actual measurements and feel.

See if any of your local golf clubs do fittings and go from there.

I was not necessarily talking about a full fitting at this stage as I am not sure about the guys budget,  but if he has the budget and is fully committitted to golf then yes go for that.  I was suggesting seeing a pro and having a lesson the pro should be able to point in the right direction of the right type of clubs for him to look for on the second hand market.

  11. The best advice I can give you,  is go and spend an hour with a pro,  any one of worth their salt should be able to point you in the right direction after seeing how you swing the club.  Much better than getting random advice off the internet,  the best £40/£50 you will ever spend on this damn frustrating game.

  12. Reducing immigration to the tens of thousands will not in way help to solve the housing crisis or improve our crumbling public services and infrastructure. These are the real reasons for the rise in Reform, who have managed to dishonestly linked immigration to those issues. If the current government were to solve the immigration conundrum,  Farage would simply move on to blaming others for our contining infrastruture and public service problems.

Yeah he talks and presents himself very well generally and particularly today.

There are great opportunities for the Greens to hoover up a lot more of the left leaning vote over the next few years and grab a very decent haul of seats at the next general election, if they can broaden their appeal slightly beyond the tofu basket weaving metropolitan middle class in certain southern cities beginning with the letter B.

And he can also make your tits bigger through hypnotism, so a win win.

Which would be great for a left leaning liberal like me in a PR system but a potential disaster with the  FPTP system that we currently have.

Difference is the rate of change.

A slow increase recently is not the same as the spike under Truss, which never really came back down, hence a small increase now being called record.

We also forget that spike would have significantly higher had she not resigned.

already have the charger as it is a new build i have moved into. Bit annoying but i will just either have to chose next car based on octopus tariff or stuck with car i want and stay with British gas, splitting hairs with money saved really as probably only charge fully twice a week.

I certainly would not choose a car based on its capatability with IOG as it could be bumped off at anytime as my was car was (I didn't choose it based on that).  Fortunately soon after they on boarded my charger (Zappi) and have had no problems in the 2 years since.  What charger do you have,  if are are so desperate to go onto IOG then you would prbably be better to have that taken out and a compatable charger put in its place.  Once you've sold the one taken out on,  the cost should not be that great as it should be a relatively simple task for an electrician.

  16. 5 hours ago, JonnyBoy said:

Ok, so worth me checking if my new company car is compatible on the list. I guess you also don't get to benefit from using electricity for other things when the rate drops to 7pkwh during the day? or is it just the lower rate for the car?

You might be better giving serious consideration to the charger you choose.  Charger integration works more smoothly than vehicle integration and it is less likley that the charger will be withdrawn from  the list than it is the vehicle.

full disclosure mate, we were already with Octopus, so it just made sense to move onto the electric tariff.   Work installed the Charging Point for free as part of an offer for their EV scheme and we just made sure we picked one with compatibility....   IF you have Solar or Battery at home.. be careful with that, as our charger doesn't support that functionality, but we don't have solar or battery anyway at this point.

Final thing to be aware of with Octopus (i don't know if this is true of all suppliers) - but you are only meant to have 1 EV on the tariff....

We have two EV's.... but we let the Charger itself handle the communication with Octopus (rather than the car directly) - so technically, they don't know which vehiecle is charging....

Octopus do also do an "unlimited" option where you pay £30 a month fixed price for EV charging.... if you are gonna be high mileage, might be worth doing the calculations as you might be better off that way.

As an when I can be bothered to do the maths... I might switch to that.

It is worth doing the calculations for Octopuses "Drive Tariff" at £30 a month you you must remember you won't be able to take advantage of load shifting the rest of the house on that tariff.  I reckon you would need to do arund 2000 miles a month to make it worthwhile.  I don't do anywhere near that but IOG works fine for me

Where have all the asylum seekers gone if the number has halved? HMOs, rented accomodation?

Is it figure manipulation? Yes the hotel numbers are massively down, but because they've been put into other accomodation?

The number of asylum seekers awaiting a decision has also gone down substantially (18%).

Again, in the US style-system that is true. In a Switzerland/Netherlands et al-style system that simply isn't true. For example in both those countries practises like excluding or dropping policy holders or hiking premiums (as you'd find with i.e. car/house policies in the UK) or excluding pre-existing conditions (as UK private healthcare does right now) is literally illegal, and it's heavily regulated and in many countries state-backed.

So a similar model to how our water industry is run today,  how is that going??  I fail to see how private healthcare companies can possibly compete with each other and not incur costs over and above that of a nationalised model.  That doesn't mean that the NHS doesn't require reform I am sure it does,  but lets not continue to pretend that this cointry can have scandie type public seervices for the tacation of the USA,  it all has to be paid for some how and I would rather pay are carers a good wage than pay already wealthy shareholders their profits.

Not empirical scientific evidence, just evidence - an interview, a document, a policy, anything. Just evidence VS personal speculation, because anyone can speculate on anything but it doesn't make it factual.

I still find it bizarre you're arguing that moving to a difference implementation isn't worth the chance, as if the NHS is the best system out there and it's working well, because it's an absolute car crash right now and has been for some time.

I've highlighted the countries with insurance-based healthcare in yellow, and many of them are doing way better than we are, i.e. the Netherlands ranks first for accessibility/efficiency and Switzerland ranks first for patient satisfaction.

The Scandinavian and Nordic countries have NHS-style systems, and also perform better than the UK so we definitely don't have to move to insurance-based to improve, but as it stands the UK is worse than even Slovenia and Czechia who many would regard as second or third world countries, so I really don't buy that we can't afford to risk changing things, because we really can, and should.

    Screenshot 2025-09-16 at 10.58.11.png

Not sure what this graph shows but I'll wager that if you compared the amont of funding dedicated to healthcare in these countries the UK would be very close to the bottom.  For instance Germany spends almost 50% more of its GDP on Healthcare as the UK,  little wonder then we have fallen behind.  Some 15 years ago the NHS was seen by many international organisations as the best and most efficient healthcare system in the world,  sadly after over a decade of under invesatment and misrule we have slipped way down that league table.

I was never a Charlie Kirk fan and disagreed with him on many things. I also disagreed with how he got points across but the black pilot comment, when considered WITH it's context is a fair point.

He's not saying that black pilots are less skilled. He's not saying that they can't be AS qualified as white pilots. He was basically referencing companies hiring less skilled black pilots over more skilled and qualified white ones, purely to make diversity quotas and when you do this, it 100% WILL lower the skill level and lead to questions like this.

If you are getting a haircut and your told the best and worst barber in town both work there but you don't know which is which, are you really going to tell me that you won't be sitting in that chair praying to god that you got the former?!

He has said some wild things, I don't believe that this is one of them.

Accept of course no pilots of any race or background had ever been employed purely to meet diversity targets.  All have to pass the same rigorous tests as anyone else.
