Marti Cifuentes - Style of Play, Tactics and Analysis
Richmondfox replied to StriderHiryu's topic in Leicester City Forum
Reid is limited but is more of a team player than Ayew. He has proven to be the bottle neck in the team. Such a waste when Marti starts him. Reid tried to make the flick on and bring the attackers into play. Ayew stops still and passes backwards in counter attacks, hogs the ball and falls over, sometimes at the expense of a counter. He seems more composed in front of goal as well compared to Ayew. He had time to control the ball but went for the volley and just smashed at it, Reid controlled the ball and finished it. Both can not play on the wing, the difference is Reid can play as a team member behind the striker. -

Or just pass to the winger who is unmarked and the defence out of position, instead of 10 passes for Thomas to be too scared to try anything so sends it backwards to repeat. -

Anything that gets JJ driving with the ball again not with his back to goal. We need players who want to pass into space and players who want to run into that space, then use their brains to cross or shoot. I don’t think Mavadidi can be relied upon to do anything well. I liked him under Enzo. Skipp and Ayew should never be receiving a pass in an attack with their backs to goal. You know what will happen. Winks should be passing to JJ quickly before the opposition has had a chance to press us or reset at the back. That means someone has to tell JV to speed things up. -

It’s slow all over the pitch, that’s why the goals we score like the winner is in spite of Marti not because of it, otherwise we would see it happen many times in the games, The position Thomas and Ricardo receive the ball is so deep, almost level with the CBs. By the time JV had invited the press and danger on the defence, they just send it backwards. One quick pass to them and they can run with the ball unmarked to set the wingers off. Nope. Pass around until someone loses it or Skipp sends it backwards to start again. it’s painfully obvious Marti zero attacking plan for this team and zero ability to change it based on the oppositions in game set up. -

I would start him there as well. He attempts to bring others into play and is a better option than Ayew. He certainly isn’t a bottle neck like Ayew. If it means JJ is next to Winks to drive from deep then all the better. But with this clown in charge he’ll start Skipp and Ayew again and play JJ so he has to live off of scraps with his back to goal. -
Something is better than nothing at this stage, being a part of the goal should boost anyone’s confidence. At least he doesn’t actively shut down an attack like Ayew. Hopefully our next manager will have some sort of clue with tactics that play to strengths. Get rid of the slow play out the back from JV, let JJ drive quickly to find the space to thread the ball for runners. Daka, Mav, Monga and Fatawu are all good enough to run onto a ball and attempt a shot, we don’t need them on the halfway line trying to skin everyone.

Norwich 1-2 LCFC, post-match thread

I would rather play some of the youngsters to get them learning the hard way and maybe embarrass some of the so called seniors. The seniors professionals aren’t doing the job, unable to do the basics and step up. They have zero good grace left. My concern with playing youngsters is having them around a dullard like Marti. He started to turn Monga into a hybrid of Mavadidi & Ayew and lost his raw energy and confidence of youth. These lads deserve a better manager and smarter players around them. -

I don’t think Marty has shown he has a clue in any game. Turgid tactics and poor team selections. He starts to get a selection right then shoe horns players in the next game and ruins the flow. Ayew blocks our attacks and does nothing in defence. He’s not a team player or good enough to be a lone wolf. Skipp is useless, it’s either a back pass to JV or Winks or when he tries actually makes a tackle it’s more of a panic as he fumbles and megs himself. He’s not a footballer. JV too slow and ruins any momentum and quick opportunity to break. His Enzo ball suicide pass causes problems in the middle. The goal came from releasing the ball to a winger higher up the pitch, Fatawu running into space not receiving it with his back to goal, crossing quickly and JJ arriving in the box. Simple passage of play, yet we don’t see it all game until we are desperate. It’s clearly not a Marti tactic because it barely happens. This simple tactic should be rinsed constantly on both sides. Drill this into the wingers and full backs to run, cross and shoot at pace rather than stand still and see who can do the most step overs. This is bread and butter for Ricardo and Thomas can do it but Marti ball has made them all so boring. -
Mavadidi is such a thick and greedy player. Easy forward pass to JJ but ignores, plenty of time to cross but he waits to cross when he’s being tackled.
-
Still passing backwards and doing everything possible to not attack.
-
Off the ball as well wasn’t it?
-
He’s such a boring player now, not a leader in the pitch. He stands level with the cb and barely drives with the ball anymore. He needs to be calling for the pass early from Okoli or get him to move up with the ball.
-
We need 10 passes around the back for JV to blast to Daka, who hopefully passes back to Winks, when that could’ve happened in 1.
-
Monga, Page (away I know) Fatawu and Mavadidi. Anyone other than the attack killer Ayew
-
This highly rated myth was started by the same person who said Ayew’s hold up play is his strength
-
There was a point where a loose ball came to Skipp, of course he was facing our goal but he could’ve passed to JJ who was next to him and the you get was on. Nope got to recycle it. Such a waste of money and time. Everyone can relate to having a useless work colleague that gets paid more but HR can’t get rid of.
-
Greedy idiots being managed by an idiot.
-
The problem is he’s just another person to play a back pass not drive forwards. We need James next to Winks, it was showing good early signs but Marti decides he needs to change it up, yet okay the same boring tactics. Again it’s too slow because of JV, the Enzo ball doesn’t work when you have players who can’t control or pass. Okoli is embarrassing and Ricardo crossed the halfway line once,m but Fatawu wanted to get a few more step overs.
-
The problem is whoever he passes to just sends it back or loses it. No one likes to pass into space to run at in this team.
-
Okoli takes too long to pass to Ricardo in space, he goes for a 1-2 with Fatawu who does his greedy cut back to try and take players on, loses it and counter. Boring
-
Okoli is embarrassing to watch. How has Ricardo became so boring and ineffective to this team. Such a waste.
-
Horrible first touch taking away from goal, falls over and counter attack. Standard for him.
-
Idiots playing out the back and invite a press. Okoli can’t pass the ball without his brain buffering.
-
Fatawu stands still not offering any support.
-
Fatawu needs to raise his game. He is slowing everything down and then can’t even make a basic pass.
