I'm ambivalent to pursuing compensation, I'd rather there was the robust punishment set by the PL but also rules on sustainability that didn't benefit only the big 6. Only changes if the big clubs get properly punished. Would be interesting to see how much bother it would put the likes of Chelsea or Man City in if they were relegated a few leagues and had to comply with stringent EFL rules. I'm sure they'd come up with ways of injecting resource to pay for pissing the leagues and coming back up but would still be fascinating.

Could this points deduction decision have been made at any point last season? I.E when were they charged? I presume our issues with this was the length of time it took for it to be announced and then appeals and independent reviews etc? This is why financial penalties are often fairer than points deductions / relegations at a point in time.

I'm not sure if it's the players or Enzo's system, but essentially our full backs attacking attributes are now rendered obsolete as they aren't allowed to support the winger, our wingers are expected to be exceptional in 1 v 1 / 1 v 2 situations and its no wonder the goals and assists for Mavididi and Fatawu are mediocre at best. Then you look at our strikers and they're mere fluffers for the advancing 8's, barely getting many chances in a game (Middlesborough / Iheanacho aside). As I've recently said, there's enough warning signs in recent weeks, Maresca would be naive and ignorant not to be aware of that. Needs a bit of fine tuning to get more players in the box, more support for our wingers and strikers. That said, our ability to defend attacks is very impressive. A benefit of not committing players forward.

McAteer as a 6??? The only other academy player on the fringes of the 1st team that can play that role than Hamza, is Braybrooke.

The options in that position are very limited. Bashir Humphreys from Chelsea would be ideal but he's at Swansea on loan and can't see them flipping him to us for the sake of it. Perhaps Malang Sarr for 6 months could be realistic. I'm quite surprised Ben Nelson hasn't been considered for that role but he needs a loan if not, and it would be pointless for us to scour PL2 for a replacement as they'd come with similar inexperience as Nelson. I really rate Oliver Sorensen at FC Midtjylland but he's probably wasted at LCB as he's quality in midfield.

The next 6 weeks will tell us more in regard to our attackers. Cannon will get chances and if he takes them then making the signing 6 months early was the calculated play.
