If you take emotion out of the equation and tried to come up with a decision matrix for who to appoint, you can see why he'd get the job. Pros - Available immediately - Cheap (no compensation to pay, salary won't be too high) - Fluent English speaker - Experience at Championship level - Experience at Premier League level - Proven experience working with and developing youth (England setup) - Has some pedigree with previous achievements (England U17 World Cup win, Forest promotion and survival) - Willing to work within a specific structure - Has previously deployed attacking and possesion based systems at International level and with Swansea. (Forest too for a bit) - Wants the job - Young with lots of potential - Willing to work at the club as part of a project Cons - Negative backlash from fans due to history with rivals and "underwhelming" perception - Fired from his last job after an extremely poor run of form If you compare him to Potter, you could use almost the same list for both, barring that there would be no backlash from fans, but crucially, it seems like Potter didn't really want the job. Corberan required compensation and doesn't have as much experience, though personally I would have gone for him over Cooper. In fact to be honest there are are quite a few people I would have prefered, but such is life. If you leave emotion out of it, then on paper it's a logical decision that makes a lot of sense. So for that reason... WELCOME SUPER COOPER!

At the start of last season Forest tried to sign Ndidi. Their manager at the time... Steve Cooper

It has changed, it definitely said King Power earlier in the day.

Very good post! The bit about winning over players can't be stressed enough. Hopefully he's started that now, calling players on their holidays and getting them excited, talking about his plans with them. His first 20 minutes on day one of pre-season when the team gets back is huge. Some people are capable of walking into a room and immediately build a rapport with a group of people and get them buying into a vision and plan. Hopefully Cooper can do that!
-
That is an absolute joke. The fact that Cooper has gone along with putting his name on that piece of corporate drivel is not a good sign.
-
Fatawu for sure. O'hare as Ric pointed out could also be in the pipeline. I also think it's highly likely we signed Dwomoh from Anderlecht and Gabriel Pereira from Gil Vicente too.

This tournament is really delivering! So many amazing matches and moments! -
Yes for what it's worth I share your concerns. Forest sacked Cooper despite Luton, Sheffield United and Burnley being in the division at the time. Even with their points deductions, Forest had been underperforming for a while, but should have been well clear given the individual quality they had. That said, I'm not sure Nuno improved them all that much. But one major plus point is that Cooper WANTS the job. Who knows, but maybe during the interview he had a massive presentation on every squad member, his vision for the future and how he would go about doing it? Unai Emery did this at Arsenal and Villa and convinced both to give him the job. Someone who is super motivated, with something to prove, could actually be a blessing in disguise. For that reason, I will wait until matchday 4 till I completely write him off and demand he be sacked.

I am far from Cooper's biggest fan, but it's unfair to bash his tactics. He switched to be pragmatic at Forrest in order to stay up. At Swansea he was way more progressive and a lot of the quote below sounds remarkably similar to how we currently play: https://forestboffin.blogspot.com/2021/09/steve-cooper-tactics.html "Initially at Swansea, Cooper favoured a 4-2-3-1, switching at times to a 4-3-3 system. A feature of these sides was patient play out from the back and a focus on attacking down the flanks. He changed to a 3-4-1-2 for the 2020/21 season, but retained this patient, wing-based approach. The dominant facet of Cooper’s Swansea sides was their patience in possession. The back three spread and the defensive midfielder sits behind the opposition’s first line of press, making himself available as a deep lying playmaker - this was usually Matt Grimes for Swansea. Grimes was the key man for Cooper – he took a large part of the responsibility to play the ball out of defence, and was responsible for this zone defensively during some passages of play."

Group F: Turkey, Georgia, Portugal, Czech Republic

Both but some other big things. 1. The FANS. Listen to the noise at the games! Real passion being transmitted in the stadiums. This game is a great example. 2. The location. Germany is a proper football country, is easy to get to, fan friendly. The sights of the fans interacting before the games is everythign Qatar wasn't. 3. The time of year. It is maybe unfair for countries that have climates that can't handle summer tournaments, but the summer post season makes much more sense for such competitions. Breaking up the season killed the last world cup before it started. 4. Quality of the teams. Qatar themselves were rubbish. So far only Scotland (hate to say it) have embarrased themselves. Croatia got smacked by three but still had opportunities. Georgia today showing why they qualified. Poland will probably finish bottom of their group but had a go. Austria under Ragnick played like a club team. In terms of games, the World Cup did have some good ones, even early in the tournament. The final was also epic. But largely it was forgettable. -

Quality game of football! What a move! This tournament already better than the World Cup imo! -

So far the tournament has really delivered! So many bangers already! There's probably only been one boring game so far. Which of course was peak Southgate ball. -
Decent player, though not sure if he's Premier League or Championship level. I think he'd be a signing that if the worst should happen would help get you back up though. Would be good as an 8 in the Enzo system, though who knows what system we are even going to use this season!

France will win the tournament. This keeper is miles better than Lloris and playing with 12 men through vintage Kante is just cheating. -

Will they give the man of the match award to N’golo or Kante? Both have had great games -
I agree with you, but I think in this case it might well be a loan with buy option, which wouldn't be the case when straight buying from the Scandinavian leagues. EDIT: Damn his profile looks incredible:

Danish left back looks decent -
Potter going to Dortmund and Corberan to Leicester doesn't seem that outlandish to me. Potter would be a good fit for Dortmund the more I think about it. Not as big a club / as much expectations as Chelsea, but several steps up from a team battling against relegation. Corberan meanwhile has looked very promising in the Championship and is probably the right level to now take on a team in our position. Would be happy with either, but think Corberan would be a better fit.

It's funny that this is your profile image, because maybe that's the reason why they don't commuicate with us: LEICESTER CITY ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED!

Rudkin, hire this man! (@Bluearmyfox28)

That's a good video to share, thanks! Potter has always been GREAT at the build-up. Brighton's renaisance is definitely built on the foundations he built. De Zerbi even said when he came in that it was much easier to get the team to play his way because they were all so comfortable on the ball and playing out of pressure. Potter was given the Chelsea job and offered the Ajax job for a reason! His "failing" for me has so far been his inability to transfer that smooth build-up into being clinical up front. He had a high xG at all his clubs so on paper at some point he should end up at a club with clinical players and he could really impress. However, when I've studied his style in the past, I think his attacking patterns of play could do with a bit of tweaking. Even in this video you see quite a few goals scored from outside the box rather than the Enzo stlye where we'd see cut backs or chipped crosses into the six yard box where attackers can't miss. On paper though he should be a good match with some of our forwards and CAMs. For where we are right now there is no doubt that Potter is an excellent coach. The bigger issue is that if he's got to be persuaded is if his heart will really be in it and if he'll just do an Enzo and leave after a bit of success. If Rudkin was an actual DOF it would be less of a problem as if Potter did leave, we could being in someone that could continue the style. To be fair, both Potter and Corberan share traits with Enzo so it's not a massive change between managers. Cooper is the odd one out who does have a good resume, but is quite different to the current "comfortable in possesion and playing out from the back" style.
-
If it’s a case of having to persuade Potter versus Corberan wanting and excited for the job, it’s got to be Carlos. It’s important to me to have someone who wants to be here and not someone who sees it as a step down. Corberan’s tutelage under Bielsa is also exciting. I don’t think he’d start that way but I could see us becoming more rock and roll over time, and who doesn’t like a bit of heavy metal!

Brighton are the obvious stand outs, thanks mostly to Chelsea!

That is the issue with ambitious managers, which will be the case for anyone we appoint. You could say that McKenna deserves it given what he's done may well never be done again, but he was defintiely interviewing at clubs last year too (notice how his new deal last season coincided with being linked to Leicester), so your implied point about a lack of loyalty definitely holds true. Great point. I guess he wants quite a lot of say in terms of who is brought in / transfer strategy / etc. And given his career so far, the biggest teams aren't yet ready to trust him. To be honest it's insane that either Man United or Chelsea wanted Maresca or McKenna. Even more insane that Bayern went for Kompany. Usually you would wait to see if these up and comers can do it in the top league first! The Arteta appointment worked out, but so far all they have is an FA Cup to show for it. He's been bankrolled to the tune of 700m and though he's definitely transformed them, who's to say someone else wouldn't? I think we want to appoint someone who ideally will be with us for 4-5 seasons, taking us back into European football. But the issue is that if they are good, they leave and if they are bad, such deals are expensive to cancel. Quite a predicament for the club really! The best thing that could happen is that a former player turns out to be the next great manager and hope that their love for the club would keep them here for quite a few seasons. But can't see that happening. Cambiasso was only hear for one season, Schmeichel maybe, but don't think he wants to be a manager and we'd have no idea how good he'd be. Maybe Vardy and Albrighton are secretly studying my tactics threads!? One can only hope !

Last season we interviewed McKenna, Maresca and Martin before appointing Maresca, so there's probably a similar process this time round with Potter, Cooper and Corberan the final candidates. We were also sounding out Scott Parker who was alleged to have been seen at the training ground, but how much truth there is in that I don't know. I suspect Parker and Martin were at least spoken to through contacts. Enzo was appointed on the 16th last year, and with the Euros starting on the 18th, I'd be surprised if we haven't got someone lined up by then.
