  1. I’ve seen many interviews with him and never thought he seemed arrogant, just confident. He’s wasn’t a starter for Denmark for many years, has never uttered any complaint and seems to get along fine there. Do we really know if he has done anything wrong here?
  2. Weird, maybe this works
  3. Btw, he also won the ball and started the attack leading up to the first beautiful goal https://streamin.me/v/2b3f5bda
  4. VK with an assist for Poulsens spectacular bicycle kick goal https://www.uefa.com/uefanationsleague/video/0291-1bcec8c9b2fc-7ecbe8d878d5-1000--poulsen-s-spectacular-overhead-kick/
  5. Won 2-0 with two late goals switzerland down to ten men after 52’ Deservedly so even before the first sending off - Xhaka got a red too because of one of his usual immature brain farts. Vesty did fine, VK too though a bit anonymous in an otherwise very energetic Danish team managed by their set piece coach! The manager stopped after the euros, his assistant took over but got sick from stress a week or two ago and his assistant (Daniel Agger) don’t have the required license yet. So here we are with the set piece coach at the helm winning 2-0 over a very good team, the first goal scored by a debutant 45 seconds after he was subbed on - his first touch in the match. The Swiss players cried like babies because the Danes didn’t kick the ball out of play before the goal. Ridiculous. What a night!
  6. The premise of the post you replied to was that he’s at least on par with some of them so it sounded like you preferred older keepers because they were older. I probably misunderstood. But while age can only be an asset in terms of experience, youth is an asset in itself as keepers usually gets better until they reach their prime in their 30’s as you said. That’s why clubs pay more the younger the player is.
  7. Age doesn’t matter if you’re good enough. Why would anyone prefer the older keeper if he’s no better than the other, younger option?
  8. Kasper tonight, dunno about Sunday
  9. He’s still young and seems quite grounded. I’m not sure we can’t keep him for another season if we stay up. Keepers’ transfers are more reliant on the movements generally in the market as there’s only one first choice at each club, and Mads might want a big move next if he is happy here - and it seems so.🤞 Well, Jorgensen (their #2 atm) is even younger than Mads and has already had a season as 1. keeper at Villarreal in La Liga - had more saves than anyone else and was an important reason for them finishing 8th despite a poor defense. Needs to improve with his feet, but in every other aspect he is very, very good. Mads is still seen as the next number 1 for Denmark, but he will look over his shoulder for Jorgensen. Analysis here: https://breakingthelines.com/player-analysis/filip-jorgensen-scandinavias-next-top-goalkeeper/
  10. It’s not about liking him or not, but the definition of energy it seems. I define energy as … well, energy. You define it as something else 😂
  11. What? If anything VK does excactly that more than anyone else? What a weird take. btw, all of his crosses were quality too.
  12. I really don’t know how anyone can come to this conclusion. He made a lot of runs in behind without getting the ball, and he carried it past a player or two a couple of times - the chance in the end where Vardy was offside, but would’ve had a penalty otherwise, was created by VK carrying the ball forward and playing it in quite neatly. He was fine today.
  13. https://chelsea.news/2024/07/chelsea-submit-first-offer-for-jorgensen/amp/
  14. We’re still paying off our debt from 1992. Probably half way there.
  15. No doubt that he’s extremely slow. It’s like when you cast ‘slow’ on a very slow monster in Heroes Of Might and Magic so they got downgraded to ‘crawling’. Pros and cons Vesty: + Strong, clever, quarterback, heading (defense and offense), positional sense, man marking. - Slow like a lobotomized ADHD-zombie on triple dose Ritalin, a bit overconfident with the ball. I think he’d do well if we play a back three with him in the middle like Denmark. He’d still get exposed on occasion and be heavily slagged off due to confirmation bias, but he’d be an asset.
  16. First, I think we have been better at both pressing and playing out of pressure in the last four games bar second half v Slovenia. That’s a prerequisite for success if you want to control games. Second, I think that has given us more chances in those games than we’ve been used to. Third, I think our defense looked very solid vs England, mostly. So far I think we look more like the team from 21 than 22-23 and therefore I’m quite optimistic though not delusional - we might lose to Serbia and then it’s doom and gloom again. I do think we were the better side v England - an opinion I think most English fans and media share as well. I think Hojbjerg had as many shots on target as England 😊 but I agree that some tend to exaggerate how well we played. I’m glad you are not one of those who question his motives and it’s completely fair to discuss whether Hjulmand is doing a good job or not. In my opinion we have the players to play like Hjulmand wants them to and yes, it’s harder to implement than the simple low block, high energy, direct passing, counter attacking style of Hareide - but when it works it gives us the best chance of winning games especially v weaker opponents that we traditionally struggled to beat. I appreciate the discussion as well.
  17. Nations League games aren’t friendlies, and I’m not overstating them. I just point out that we have beat some very good teams. I also never said that we never lose so I don’t see how that’s relevant. As for team selection it’s not a question of individual names (though, you really want him to pick players from the Danish League?!?), but whether you really believe that Hjulmand picks players for any other reason than optimizing our chances of winning - you might not agree with him which is fine, but I’m sick and tired of people questioning his motives. I don’t think claims that he picks his friends or former players just to do them favors are worthy of a debate. You might have some good points about Qatar, I didn’t watch it nor did I care. But I do think they should’ve been able to shake it off and move on quicker than they’ve done, including Hjulmand. as I said I like Hareide. But as impressive as it was that we went unbeaten for 30+ games (including friendlies which you just said shouldn’t be overstated though) it’s not really worth anything, is it? And Hjulmand has more points and goals per match anyway. Hjulmand’s tactics are better for a team of our quality if you want the best chances to achieve big things. When it works, it gives us as much control as possible for a side with the players we have leaving less up to chance. It hasn’t worked for a long time, though, but I think we’re getting back on track now. That’s just my opinion of course. I will point out again though that you’ll be hard pressed to find a single Danish top coach who doesn’t think Hjulmand is a very, very good tactician - like David Nielsen pointed out again yesterday.
  18. All of which is ridiculous - one game where he doesn’t sub early and people claim he’s inflexible. Come on. And either you didn’t read my post properly or you don’t remember very well. After Hjulmand took over we played many very entertaining games. We’ve scored 100 goals in 52 games under him and averages 2.02 points per game. Hareide is next with 1.93 and we’ve played vs better opponents under Hjulmand while trying to create games where Hareide wanted to concede possession and play on the counter.
  19. Yes. Watching Kasper winning the PL like his dad was 🤯 I love when underdogs upset the bigger teams at tournaments, and this was that in steroids.
  20. I agree with much of it, but I do think you’re a bit harsh and miss some things. Most importantly we have played entertaining football under Hjulmand. Not so often the past two years, but in ‘21 and NL. We’ve also beaten both France and England without digging trenches as under Hareide (whom I like btw). Also, Hjulmand has shown excellent game management in these games, tactical flexibility and inspirational ambitions. It’s also way harder to train the players to play like Hjulmand wants us to than Hareides style - especially in the NT where as you point out they don’t have a lot of time to do it, and the players aren’t hand picked. It requires so much more planning and detailed coaching and he’s extremely good at those core features of his profession. Qatar was a failure because the top of the FA didn’t know what to do and let the team handle the public criticism - an impossible task. We should have boycotted it imo, but as we didn’t it shouldn’t be on Hjulmand or the players to explain.
  21. If I were English I’d join the choir criticizing Southgate, though it tends to get a little black and white. That said, we (Denmark) always give bigger teams problems and very rarely lose by more than a goal. We beat France both home and away in the Nations’ League in 2022. In 2020 we drew and won against you in NL. Since 2018 I think only Belgium has won by two in non-friendlies. We thrive in the underdog role and we have struggled as favorites the last few years after a magical first two years with Hjulmand as coach. I think we have better depth and a higher average quality of players than ever, but we sorely lack dribblers who are so important in the modern game. Contrary to popular opinion here I think we have one of the best coaches in international football and he showed that again yesterday in the way he set us up with Vesty in the middle and AC shadowing Saka, then switching at once when you subbed. Even though we’ve struggled for some time Hjulmand is probably the best coach in Denmark including his good friend Thomas Frank. That’s not to absolve Southgate because there’s really no excuse for not playing attacking football with intensity with the players you have in attack. Had VK (who’s becoming very good I think) not allowed Walker to walk past him we might just have won and that’s not good enough from your perspective of course.
  22. We might play 433 leaving Vesty out. We haven’t looked solid in that formation though.
  23. Aside from your world class attacking players and our world class defender (Christensen) and much better keeper, England and Denmark look quite similar. I mean, you’ll be 75-85 % favorites against us, but both teams were running the show, scored and let the opponent in the game later on. Both coaches get criticized for not keeping the intensity and subbing too late. Denmark’s strongest side used to be defense and the solid spine up through midfield, but we’ve been so painfully fragile the last couple of years. Peak Kjaer instead of big Jannik would make me much more confident. I really hope we can make better use of Hojlund’s pace, but I fear you’ll cut through our left side like laser through very slowly flowing melted butter.
  24. I just want to point out that the opinion here is divided - the tabloid media have had some success with the narrative @VinceNoirseems to buy into, but in general it seems people are still very excited with the team. England are big favorites against us of course. But it’s a myth that our coach hasn’t renewed the team at all and only picks the old guard - Hjulmand will probably start as DM, Bah as RB, Kristiansen as LB and Hojlund on top, all young players. Plus there are mitigating circumstances to the failure in Qatar, most importantly the heated discussion and pressure on the team from the public for them to take a stand politically. Finally, the O’Riley-thing. Omg. Damsgaard was out for a year (!) with arthritis and has taken a long time to build fitness - why do people not consider that fact? He’s also our only truly creative player besides Eriksen and the best at playing in small spaces. But yes, let’s replace him with a completely different type who’s played in a league of League One quality. Sorry, I do rate Mo’R, but we really need to see him perform consistently at a high level before slagging off our coach for not picking him before proven players. edit: There wasn’t any mitigating circumstances at play in our near draw in San Marino, though. THAT was truly embarrassing!
  25. 1st and 2nd was like day and night. Denmark withdrew after 2-0 but up until the second goal played aggressive high gegenpres football totals dominating Norway. Changed 4 players and formation a bit into the second half as well.
