  1. Ain't that the truth And don't think for one minute the BBC doesn't fall into that category too.
  2. i really don't think it's Ken putting spin on stuff that's the big concern
  3. yes it could be , but why was the increase described as "unexpected" then ? surely if it's to do with seasonal adjustment , it's not unexpected is it ? and just how it's being touted by some as a "massive fall in unemployment" seems incredible . edit; the point i'm really trying to make is the obvious spin that's being worked here
  4. yes that's right, i thought he might be davieG's son , but couldn't be sure. it's not much more than a hunch, but i thought he mentioned that he was trying to get into writing , and i feel sure the name "Gavin" was mentioned in some posts by people who know him . Gavin + Oslo + Leicester , it just made me think it was possibly Valeranga it could just be a coincidence, and as davie doesn't seem to have mentioned it , then it probably is just that.
  5. UK unemployment falls http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-26255696 Sorry UK unemployment rises unexpectedly to 7.2% http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/21c8793c-994b-11e3-91cd-00144feab7de.html#axzz2tmSZ8Uil no hang on !! UK unemployment continues to fall with record numbers of women in work http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/feb/19/unemployment-continues-to-fall-jobless-rate Oh dear just a minute UK unemployment jumps to 7.2% http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/uk-unemployment-jumps-to-72-9138115.html
  6. That's fine , Alf , but a small rise is hardly Moosey's "massive fall in unemployment". At best it's a slight fall over a 6 month period . It's been through 1000 RPM spin to call it that . Party-time frocks are staying in the wardrobe for the time being
  7. it's taken straight from Reuters ain't it?
  8. please explain how a rise in unemployment from 7.1% to 7.2 % becomes a "massive fall in unemployment" ? it can't really be described as a massive anything i'm still not getting my best party time frocks out just yet if you don't mind .
  9. the unemployment rate is up to 7.2% isn't it ? LONDON, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Britain's unemployment rate unexpectedly rose in the three months to December, further supporting the Bank of England's message that it was in no rush to raise interest rates. The jobless rate edged up to 7.2 percent in the three months to December compared with 7.1 percent in the three months to November, the Office for National Statistics said on Wednesday. The number was higher than a forecast of 7.1 percent in a Reuters poll http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/uk-unemployment-unexpectedly-edges-three-093006808.html
  10. all these years i thought a girl was a "bird", but it turns out it's just a corruption of a Norse word "burd" which means bride or maiden ( or possibly it's a shortened form of the English word burden ) i suppose its a bit like the Leicester term duck being actually short for duchess and nothing at all to do with water fowl . i'm now making a conscious effort to say "hey up me duch" , and write burd rather than bird
  11. Maybe British women get more "headaches" than your Sheilas down there .
  12. I'm only guessing by just putting a few scraps of info from the blurb , but i think the author might be Voleranga ( not sure how it's spelt) He was quite a regular poster a couple of years ago but seems to have stopped now. i'm only joining up a few dots , so i might be completely wrong about it .
  13. Yes i've only read, "Of Mice and Men" many years ago ( too many to remember) for O level Eng lit . I find it very difficult to read fiction and novels for some reason these last few years . i used to read a couple of novels a week , but i don't know why but i just can't seem to get interested in them anymore. i can still read a bit of non fiction if the mood takes me.
  14. i wanted to name my first daughter Rose of Sharon ( pronounced Rosheen) , but my missus at the time wouldn't have any of it. I've not read the book but the film was terrific .
  15. I'm not sure if this has been posted before , and i haven't read it yet , but i think the book's author may be a former FT poster http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GL9QB5C
  16. I've heard that urine is good for cleansing ears. Pop down the local park and have a nap on a bench, making sure your problem ear is upwards and accessible, and wait for Mattp to come along
  17. actually, thinking about it again religious institutions can be classed as giant conspiracies yes that's very true , but most have the main spokesperson or small cabal such as Gage for architects 911 , David Ray Griffen 911 truth or Sibrel/Kaysing for moon stuff , the main thrust is to knock them down as individuals either by character assassination or other devious dirty tricks so that any association is tainted . anyway it's not my words of wisdom , it's just a film quote. EDIT; Going back to your original comparison to religious beliefs etc . In the past it was quite something if an individual denied the existence of a god etc , there was indeed a great intensity to disprove them as individuals and this method of suppressing dissent was very effective. It was only when more and more started to question religious belief a whole movement grew and the tactic became useless . so i'd say the quote does have much merit to it.
  18. firstly i'm an atheist and secondly there are equally as many that try to prove the existence of god as the non-existence, so it's hardly a case of an "individual " edit; oh yeah, and wot spherical said too
  19. Thanks john No inside info i'm just trying to be prepared for it if it comes . Thats good, basically they do work as an emergency situation. They look easy enough to fit and remove . So i'll keep them in the boot and hope i won't need them
  20. like your new avatar oz i hope people don't think it's part of the respect referees campaign
  21. Has anyone ever used snow socks on their car tyres ? are they any use in the snow ? i nearly got stuck in snow last year so i've bought some and put them in my boot in case we get some snow , but they don't look as though they'd make much difference. Are they just more gimmicky rubbish that i've wasted money on ?
  22. What sort of emergencies? Like if she said no , you'd step in and take her place ?
  23. very good but soo cruel
  24. Thanks Webbo and Buce Sounds a good quote to me
