Looking at the bigger picture, today was a step in the right direction considering the state of our club, recent outgoings and changes to the squad. Jacob and the defence showed real commitment—they looked up for it and were willing to put their bodies on the line. Of course, there are always things you can pick apart, but overall they were excellent.
Soumaré had a solid game; he just needs someone alongside him who’s more forward-thinking and creative. Winks isn't the answer for me it is clear that he doesn’t want to be here. Page has a bright future but he needs proper managing and time he's not the answer yet. It is definitely an area we need to invest in. Monga got bullied at times but didn’t look fazed, which is a positive sign.
Hamza showed today that he can do a job at right-back at this level, which could give us the option to try Ricardo Pereira in midfield—something worth exploring.
Ayew has to play in the No. 10 role for the time being, and finding a proper striker is becoming more urgent by the game.
The biggest takeaway for me today is that we’re missing a bit of nastiness and aggression to compete in this league. We lost too many 50/50s, and that edge is something we’ve got to find quickly if we want to compete.
