Iversen was following the model of successful loans to the Championship that then led to first team opportunities (like Barnes, KDH), which made many believe he would be competing with Ward for that #2 spot. I don't think many begrudged Ward a chance, but we didn't need many games to see he clearly wasn't up to it. We don't know what was said or promised when Iversen signed his last deal, but the way we blocked his moves away for the past 3-4 windows when he was essentially never more than third choice (Stolarczyk and Ward were ahead when Maresca joined), is likely not what he was told. He was paid handsomely yes, but it did little to progress his career. In that way I can see why it's suggested he "hasn't been treated well".

He was never touted as a wonderkid. He stood out because he became a full St Kitts and Nevis international. Jeffrey Bruma anyone? To be fair, he had a decent career.

He certainly made a case after his successful loans at Preston and Ward's indifferent cup performances. But you may be right that he was never truly considered first choice - which makes our reluctance to sell him even more baffling.

How Ward has had more chances is bewildering, but he ultimately fell victim of managers' playstyles and wasn't good enough. We should never have given him the last conttact or sold him when we had the chance. Another poor series of decisions at Rudkin's doorstep?
