  1. I haven't been the Woodies in years. I always thought it was the equivalent of the Royal Oak in Quorn. A nice pub with a posh crowd and decent (nothing special) beer selection.
  2. Swan is a gem! Mountsorrel is a hive of activity these days
  3. 😂 respect to Western for keeping the Leicester pubs going! Happy New Year all! Got some good crawls booked in for next year (partly inspired by this thread) but won’t be in January!
  4. Happy New Year’s to the best thread on foxestalk! Leicester boys are we…
  5. Yeah all completely fair. I prefer the Leicester places to the Birmingham Punjabi places. I’d happily eat at Brigadiers on corporate expenses 😂
  6. I tried the Tamil Prince a few months ago and Brigadiers in the City more recently. I liked Tamil Prince, and their curries were no doubt better than your standard stuff (albeit on the small side), however I’m more into my starters/sides and thought there wasn’t much on that front. Brigadiers was tasty but a complete rip off. A butter chicken was £28. I mean, its butter chicken, there’s only so much you can do with it! I suppose most people there are on corporate expenses so they can get away with it. I’m not a huge fan of Zone 1 restaurants in London in general. Cash cows, chasing trends, hyped up on social media, and everyone books them miles in advance. My favourite Indian I’ve been to in London is the Regency Club in Queensbury. Definitely worth checking out! My favourite place to eat in London is Green Lanes for Turkish food, that’s the vibe I’m all about!
  7. Yeah I think that's why I like it so much. Staff are sound and it's a good atmosphere in there. I was on the John Smiths in there the other night! Always rate their lamb chops and crispy aubergine (best in Leicester for me). Would you say the food was better at Wyvern?
  8. Unsurprisingly it's been a very heavy Xmas period! Last day of drinking today for hopefully a month. I did a Loughborough pub crawl the other day: Organ Grinder, Wheeltapper, Needle & Pin, Swan in the Rushes, and White Hart. Loughborough has good drinking options for the size of the town, especially considering it's got a Blue Monkey and Castle Rock pub, albeit it's not the best Castle Rock pub. The pick of the bunch is probably the White Hart, which is the same guy as the Castle in Leicester. I'm not really into Porters and Stouts, but I had a really nice Castle Rock one - Door of the Cosmos.
  9. This guy does really good videos on London pubs and areas. Gets really into the detail and history: https://www.youtube.com/@TweedyPubs
  10. Does the Rock do well in Whitwick ? Need to check it out
  11. Just had a look online and think it was this one actually:
  12. Yeah I thought it was pretty good when I went a year back. Obv a bit rough inside but the food was all tasty. Had some kind of Nepalese fish curry in there which was arguably the best curry I've ever had. Need to go back!
  13. Still need to tick off Chef’s Flavour. Was it busy in there?
  14. Charnwood Brewery APA in the Fox Cub. Excellent Pint
  15. Most people's beer choice is based on marketing and image which is why Guinness and Madri rule the roost atm. I would have been exactly the same when I was 18-25. Unfortunately, I have now become a boing old beer snob and I don't think there is any going back...
  16. Do you mean What A Shot? I had a similar experience there. Decent food but slow service.
  17. Thanks all! I just ended up going to The Harp and Savoy Tap, both decent enough but nothing special. Was paying £7 for Cask in the Harp! Not even particularly strong or fancy stuff either...
  18. Three Kilns in Thurmaston. Big car park and lots of space inside
  19. Got a whole day in London to myself on Tuesday so hoping to tick off some places before a curry at Brigadiers later. I'm going to be in Waterloo and Covent Garden. Was thinking Kings Arms, The Harp and maybe the Lyric. If anyone has any other suggestions that would be great.
  20. I haven't done the pubs over that side, looks like there's a few good ones. Is the beer selection decent in the Bath? Saw European Bar Guide was there recently.
  21. I always try and bank as much time as possible in Jan off the drink. Usually do about 3 weeks. For someone who drinks a bit too much, it's a good chance to get a few dry weeks under your belt when there's not going to be many options out there to tempt you. I generally try and avoid drinking in the week, but it doesn't always happen. I'm a sucker for a Sunday evening beer at home which I think is just down to boredom.
  22. A £8.35 pint of Prava at the Birmingham Utility Arena. **** Me. Apologies to everyone for validating the madness, but I was desperate...
  23. yeah fair. I think in an ideal world I'd like a place to be two thirds full. The service was still good in Little Club despite it being so full.
  24. Little Club was as good as ever last night. The starters are excellent! Was buzzing in there, both floors full.
  25. Yeah fair, I have quite a few mates who think similar. If you just want a standard curry and rice then it's nothing special at all. It's all the other indo/chinese and east african stuff, which you don't get at standard Indian restaurants, which makes it great IMO.
