  1. Anyone had any problems with "lag" on the PS3 version? Mine has been running ok although I've not had a chance to play it for a week or so, but the Bethesda forums are awash with people complaining about choppy gameplay once you get so far in?

  2. I'm just shocked really. He was a happily married millionaire and yet he kills himself. Strange.

Depression can be well hidden, if indeed it was linked to depression. You should read "A Life Too Short" about the life and death of Germany and Hanover goalkeeper Robert Enke who took his own life a couple of years ago despite the fact that he was successful and wealthy.

  3. Cheers

I had Oblivion and really rated it (even though I was often sidetracked) so if this is better (as the reviews etc suggest), then it should be a beaut!

Though I think its always better to hear what other people, like you guys, have to say about it, rather than a general review in a magazine etc.

Looking forward to a good session later, if ASDA actually have it in stock.

My first impression is that it is better than Oblivion. I think I just need to take my time with it and enjoy it rather than trying to rush through. There is so much to explore and in theory at least you can go anywhere at any time although the game nudges you along the main quest.

  4. Think I might pick this up after work....all night sessionnnnnnn!!

How are people getting on with it so far?

    Rating? Thoughts?

I've barley scratched the surface so far, with only a couple of hours play so far but I'm impressed so far. It looks amazing (I'm playing on PS3) with no major glitches that I've seen so far. There is clearly an overwhelming amount to do and I find it a bit bewildering as to what to do. But then I felt that about Oblivion and Fallout and still enjoyed them. One thing which really confuses me is all the items lying around which can be picked up. What the hell do I do with them?

But if you like RPG then I don't think you can go wrong with this...

  5. is it on again tonight? I can take or leave either, but in my opinion Corrie is better than EastEnders. EE tries to be gritty drama but ends up embarassing itself with its attempt at humor. Corrie has, I dunno, just got more "charm" maybe?

  6. This is brilliant stuff. What an amazing story. Saw the first man come out at 4.00am and have been watching as much as possible since. Hoping that everything continues to run smoothly and they all get out.

Was just trying to imagine a parellell here - imagine a load of Yorkshire or South Wales miners (not that there are many left) emerging after two months underground to be greeted by . . . . David Cameron!

  7. Although it rains a lot in the lakes, one advantage of this if you do get a wet week is to take a walk to one of the many waterfalls which are always more spectacular when in flood after a few days of rain. Aira force, near ullswater is probably the most visited. Most people do a short walk to the falls and back from the car park but it is worth continuing up stream to see more falls further up.

Also, if your a national trust member, or know someone who is, take their card which can save a small fortune on car park fees at many sites.

  8. I have spent ages (literally like, 14 minutes) looking at cottages/log cabins in the Lake District for October 11th-15th.

There are literally so many to choose from, but that's the problem!

Does anyone have any recommendations? Somewhere nice, bonus if it is right on the lake, with lots of walking/biking nearby?

    Thanks in advance!

I've been loads of times, always (generally) stayed in a different cottage and always had good accomodation. www.cumbrian-cottages.co.uk usually have a good selection and if you're going at short notice you'll get a good price. The villages of Glenridding, Patterdale and Pooley Bridge are all close to Ullswater and are beautiful places. The Western Lakes arguarbly have the most dramatic landscape but the drive from the M6 can be a bit of bast. One thing there is no shortage of is walking, wherever you stop. Main thing to weigh up is how near / far from shops/pubs do you want to be. We used to always go for a remote cottage (like High Winder at www.lakesandvalleys.co.uk) but since having kids, tend to favour somewhere "in town" like Keswick or Ambleside.

You won't regret it, I go as often as I can afford and it is a lovely place to go on holiday. Just don't expect to get a suntan!

Edit: Coniston is nice as well; small village - just enough ameneties and a few pubs and a local museum. Nice lung busting walk up Coniston Old Man followed by a pie and pint of Bluebird Ale in front of the open fire in the Black Bull.

  9. I'm still picking my way through it and still enjoying it (taking a bit longer than some people, but don't get as much time to play as I used to). I'm not sure how much I'm going to want to return to it after I've finished it but for now it is gripping me.

Although..... 3D Dot Game Heroes and ModNation Racers are also tempting me... Must finish RDR first though!

  11. I need this game but I don't even have a PS3 or X-Box yet!

Which is better cos I'm gonna get one so I can tie the ho to the traintracks?

don't think there's any/much difference. i've got the ps3 version. there's plenty of fanboys on the web who'll tell you the xbox version has (slightly) better graphics - don't know if that's true, or even if it is, whether you'd notice or not. I think it looks great on my system. Wouldn't recommend plumping for either platform on the strength of one game. I was *this* close to getting an Xbox before going for the (more expensive) ps3 and have not regretted it. And the PS3 plays blu-rays as well (if you didn't know). I'm sure that if i'd gone for the xbox I'd be happy as well - just try not to get embroiled in fanboy wars!

About 10 hours in now to RDR and really enjoying it - and I've got a pretty short attention span!

  12. I had a few games yesterday, I'm useless at it and haven't won a game, did manage to get the achievement for it though by getting a ringer. Lucky shot.

    Some brilliant achievements... lol

I struggled at first with the horseshoes but found that using the "aim view" enables you to line up the direction. The tricky part is releasing it in the middle of the swing. I won my first game, although it was only for $5 so I suppose it is harder with a bigger bet.

  13. Might get this today if I can get it for about £35, never been a fan of spending £40+ on games.

Whats the general verdict on it?

I traded in a load of old games at Gamestation so didn't have to shell out any £££'s. I really like it, it looks great and there does seem to be an awful lot to do. The comparision with GTA IV is valid but I think it shares some similarities with Fallout as well in terms of the immersive world. Marston is a likeable character and so far I haven't really stepped the wrong side of the law (i.e. shooting civilians) unlike in GTA where I usually end up spending more time "messing about" running people over rather then playing "properly".

The missions seem to be a bit more forgiving as well - if you mess up you don't have to start all the way from the start again.
