Why? We will have a transfer budget this summer. Not a huge one, perhaps, but we will have one.
-
Let's hope he doesn't watch replays of the end of some of our games during Maresca's poor run last season...
-
Apparently the FA is considering Pochettino and Tuchel.
-
Is that a rhetorical question?
-
The words "sword" and "double-edged" come to mind...
-
It didn't seem to bother him when he managed in the England youth set-up for five years.
-
Those rumours won't go away. It would be such a bizarre move to get rid of Ten Hag and replace him with Southgate, but apparently Jim Ratcliffe sees something in him...
-
Southgate has said he'll probably leave the England job if we fail to win the Euros. In other words, he's very likely to leave this summer. If that happens, the job would likely be Potter's if he wants it - but maybe he'd prefer another club management job...?
-
Ha - just down the road! I’ve driven through there many times on my little driving tours of west Oxfordshire while trying to induce my youngest to sleep…
-
Football gazed at us with loving eyes and whispered, “You complete me.”
-
Phwoaaaarr!!!!
-
We might be his top choice after the England job. So we'll likely have to wait until Southgate decides whether he wants to continue before Potter gives us a final answer.
-
To be fair, it was pretty funny when they managed to convince half of twitter that they'd chopped down a large swathe of the Brazilian rainforest to carve out a message of support for England just before the World Cup in 2014.
-
So who's going to take pre-season training for the first few weeks?!
-
I hope you asked the village Co-Op for permission before taking that pic. They can get a little touchy in there sometimes...
-
Eynsham. Are you local?

Betfair and Paddy Power suspended betting on Potter yesterday morning, and he's still suspended on both sites. However, other bookies are offering odds of up to 3/1 on him. From this we can conclude that: 1) Betfair and Paddy Power have both either taken heavy bets on Potter or have heard what they believe is credible information. 2) The other bookies remain unconvinced by whatever it is that has made Betfair and Paddy Power remove Potter from their markets. In short, it tells us very little.

I actually live in a village in Oxfordshire. My time in Clapham is but a wistful memory these days...

I don't think Potter is really available, despite the club's obvious interest in him. I suspect he wants to England job & has a reasonable chance of getting it as I don't think Southgate will stay beyond this summer. Is Cooper adequate? I'm not so sure. He kept Forest up because they were able to generate an atmosphere at the City Ground that created a significant home advantage. Away from home - when his tactical acumen was really tested - they were horrific. I'm not at all convinced by him. I think Corberan has done a very good job at West Brom and performed a near-miracle at Huddersfield. I've also been influenced by the analysis of his tactics by Dominic Wells on the WYS podcast last week. It sounds like he has the same basic philosophy as Maresca but is more pragmatic and willing to change things when they're not working. Sounds ideal for us. If the club also believes Corberan is the best man for the job, I hope they go for him rather than save money by choosing a second or third choice.

A good friend of mine supports Swansea. I texted him over the weekend for his thoughts on Potter vs Cooper. His answer? "Potter would have been brilliant but he fell out with the owners very quickly and he wanted out. The football under Cooper was terrible but he got results when it mattered." If it is to be Potter - and I don't think it will be - I hope the club is honest with him from the start about our situation. It doesn't sound like he would stick around if he felt he was misled in any way.

Wrong on so many levels. First, we will absolutely have £4m to spend on a new manager, although it will probably need to be booked into next year's accounts. Second, which two 'perfectly adequate' candidates are actually available? And third, this is one of the most important managerial appointments in our history - do you really want to aim for 'adequate' and free rather than pay for somebody who's actually good? That there's crazy talk, daddy.
-
Yep, I'd prefer Corberan to any of the other names mentioned. Let's just pony up the £4m or whatever and get him.
-
It was the right decision though.
-
I agree that fluctuations in betting markets mean very little, but they wouldn’t suspend the market on one name because of a £10 bet. Somebody has laid down a lot more than that. This also doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but it’s a bit more interesting than, say, the odds shortening from 10/3 to 2/1.
