https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jurgen-klopp-blames-brendan-rodgers-9291374 Leicester City's inability to keep out Manchester City at the Etihad in 2019 still annoys the departing Reds boss five years on as he reflects on his reign at Anfield ByJordan Blackwell 15:46, 17 MAY 2024 Jurgen Klopp would be walking off into the sunset with two Premier League titles to his name if not for Brendan Rodgers, James Maddison and Leicester City, the outgoing Liverpool boss has joked. Heading into the final week, Liverpool topped the table, but Manchester City had a game in hand. That spare match was against Leicester at the Etihad Stadium, and was settled by Vincent Kompany’s wonder strike. Rodgers’ side had kept Man City at bay for 70 minutes, and even had a big chance to equalise through Kelechi Iheanacho late on, but the game ended 1-0 to Pep Guardiola’s men, who then clinched the title on the final weekend. Five years on, Maddison’s lack of pressure and Rodgers’ lack of substitutions remains fresh in Klopp’s mind. Klopp told The Redmen TV: “The moment when Vincent Kompany fires the ball there, I am really happy I didn't get a stroke in that moment. That's how it must feel. I remember exactly how I was lying on the sofa. I was watching and thinking: ‘ Maddison, Maddison, block him, close him down!' Since then I don't like Maddison. “And I was angry with Brendan that day because he should have taken him off because he was tired. Leicester played a really good first half. After that, they should have scored. It's just a personal thing, I have no problem with him (Maddison), but when I see him it's always… and I saw him again last weekend.” Also here - https://www.givemesport.com/jurgen-klopp-james-maddison-liverpool-tottenham/

I have no fundamental problem with the station project but the DLUHC is still taxpayers money and people have right to comment positively or negatively on how it's spent. As an aside I do wish the council had ignored the protests back in the day and routed London Rd. to Charles St. along Conduit St we then could have had a great exit from the Station to Granby St.

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/leicester-citys-saddest-story-gets-9287643 Leicester City's saddest story gets 'special' ending after three-year wait Ricardo Pereira played 32 90-minute matches as City won the Championship title this campaign, 10 more than in the previous three injury-ravaged seasons combined ByJordan Blackwell 10:53, 16 MAY 2024 Leicester City are champions and Ricardo Pereira gets to say he’s played a major part in their success. It’s not just that he’s taken on a crucial role within Enzo Maresca’s set-up, playing at full-back without the ball but in midfield with it, but he’s also been fit to contribute for nearly the whole campaign. Seeing Ricardo play such an integral role has been one of the highlights of the season, because his journey over the past three years has been one of City's saddest stories. The player of the season in his maiden campaign at the King Power Stadium, and one of the best full-backs in the Premier League if not Europe, Ricardo suffered an ACL tear in the final game before the Covid shutdown and has been battling injuries ever since. Staying fit has been difficult. Since his return from knee surgery, Ricardo’s not only suffered a series of minor muscle issues, but he’s had big lay-offs too, most notably for an Achilles rupture in the final pre-season game of summer 2022. Just when he’s been looking back to his old self, he’s been struck down with a new problem. But finally, he’s been able to enjoy a full campaign. Ricardo made 45 appearances across all competitions this term, including 39 starts. He completed 90 minutes 32 times. In the previous three seasons combined, he was only able to play a full match on 22 occasions. Reflecting on his own season, Ricardo said: “It's been really good. On the personal side, it was my biggest goal to be available as much as I could and play as much as I could. Even when things weren’t going very well, it was about doing the small things right, doing the things I can control well, and it’s paid off. Just a little bit late! “(I didn’t change anything) from last season to this season but with the food, having a nutritionist, trying to do as much as I could in terms of recovery after training and after games, sleeping well. They are the sort of things I would do badly in the past, but it’s just ticking all of the boxes to be in a good way mentally, knowing I did everything I could to be in a better place.” Without Ricardo, Maresca’s plan may not have worked so successfully. The 30-year-old needed to show the technical qualities to thrive in tight spaces in midfield and creative abilities when he pushed beyond Harry Winks to join the attack. But he needed to have the tactical know-how too so that he never left his full-back station too exposed. He did the job brilliantly. Plus, he had to be a leader. When Jamie Vardy wasn’t on the pitch, Ricardo skippered the team. So when Vardy lifted the trophy on the final day, he called on the Portuguese, as well as Marc Albrighton, to do the honours with him. The leadership role will likely become more important next season, when Ricardo will have to guide younger players through what may be their first campaign in the top flight as City look to right the wrongs of 2022-23 and avoid relegation. In terms of quality, it will go high, I know they (the young players) are aware of that. I’ll do my best to help them. “In the Premier League, if you make one mistake and they have one chance, they are more clinical. But we have time to get used to it and I’m sure we’ll be fine. “We know we have the quality but in football anything can happen. Sometimes the quality is not enough. We need to learn from that (relegation in 2023), try to do better and try not to make the same mistakes. It’s about knowing we have quality but needing to work hard.”

https://www.greatcentralgazette.org/testing-loyalty-the-foxes-unwavering-support/ Testing loyalty: the Foxes' unwavering support Amidst turbulence, including two legal proceedings against the Premier League and EFL over its controversial point deductions this season, Leicester fans celebrated their loyalty. As celebrations continue throughout the city, we look back at a rocky season. Aarini Mehta AARINI MEHTA LCFC fans wave a flag in front of a building with LCFC banners. Fans watch from the balcony. Fans remain loyal to LCFC despite points deductions. Photograph: Aarini Mehta / Great Central Gazette MAY 16 2024 8:00 AM 5 MIN READ 0 SHARE Leicester City Football Club (LCFC) have won the Championship for the record-breaking eighth time and have been promoted back to the Premier League. From an emphatic 25 wins in their first 32 games to a sudden run of poor form to eventually winning the second division, it is safe to say that it has been quite a turbulent season for the Foxes. But they may face a possible points deduction next season. Points deductions have taken the Premier League by storm this season. With the chaos of Everton’s points deductions, ten to six to eight, and Nottingham Forest’s four points, the question here is: what exactly is causing the Premier League to hand out points deductions? Of course, those who keep up with football know a lot about Financial Fair Play (FFP), but how does this system work in the Premier League with teams spending millions every transfer window? The Premier League has come up with the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) allowing clubs in the league to make ‘allowable’ losses of up to £5 million per season, averaged over three seasons. After being charged as the fourth club to breach the current PSR regulations, Leicester City could very well be facing a points deduction next season, after their recent promotion to the Premier League. Enjoying this story? Subscribe for high-quality journalism and useful local information in your inbox every week. Your email Subscribe for more No spam. Unsubscribe anytime. In a statement released by the Foxes, the team expressed their extreme disappointment, stating: “[We are] surprised at the actions the Premier League has taken.” They continued: “[We are] extremely disappointed that the Premier League has chosen to charge LCFC now, despite the club’s efforts to engage constructively with the Premier League in relation to the matters that are the subject of this charge, even though LCFC is not currently a Premier League club.” Leicester City has issued two legal proceedings After these charges, the English Football League (EFL) placed the club under a registration embargo, meaning they cannot sign any new players as of now, preventing them from strengthening their team. Leicester City responded by issuing two legal proceedings against the Premier League and EFL. The LCFC bus driving through the parade. Fans find the alleged violations "disappointing" but remain loyal. Photograph: Aarini Mehta / Great Central Gazette There are mixed emotions among fans right now. A club supporter, Taiwo Taiwo said, “Of course, we are excited to be back and competing in the Premier League next season and are looking forward to the challenge. There have been some ups and downs this season, but there is trust in the team to do well for the remainder of this season and next season. “The alleged PSR violations are disappointing, nevertheless, we hope that the team will be able to make the best out of the situation and remain positive as they have the last few weeks. The promotion is very proof of that. Now there are some fans who are perceiving the negatives, and they believe it will be a challenging next season — which it will, but it is important to support the club no matter what.” The club announced losses of £89.7 million For the 2022-23 season, Leicester City announced a loss of £89.7 million. The main reasons of this include no participation in European football as the team failed to qualify in the 2021-22 season and the sacking of ex-manager Brendan Rodgers and his staff. Fans let off blue smoke flares in support of the Foxes. Despite the financial losses, LCFC is reaching for success. Aarini Mehta / Great Central Gazette But perhaps, the biggest reason for their losses was their relegation in the 2022-23 season, where they lost about £30-35 million in revenue. According to the club’s CEO Susan Whelan, the impact of the relegation “[would] be felt for some time.” However, according to hospitality staff in Leicester, it seems fans are remaining loyal to the club during this turbulent time. Joseph Long, the general manager of the Local Hero pub, said: “On match days, our pub sees a fantastic turnout of Leicester City fans gearing up for the game. The crowd here is electric, full of dedicated supporters who bring an incredible energy and passion to every match. The spirits are always high, win or lose. “There was no significant change in our pub's crowd size or atmosphere after last season's relegation. Our loyal guests continued to show up in full force to support Leicester City, demonstrating unwavering dedication to the team.” Elaine Ner, the general manager of the Counting House pub said: “We get an amazing crowd for Leicester City home matches, as a designated away fan's pub, the crowd changes with each game, and we look forward to welcoming guests from all around the country. “The away fans have all been awesome and when Leicester are promoted, it will be a shame not to see some of these lovely people again, however we are always looking forward to welcoming the next crowd of dedicated fans.” Talking about expectations for the next season, Taiwo said, “My expectations for the next season would be for Leicester City to comfortably stay in the Premier League despite the points deduction. I would love the team to show grit and determination towards staying in the division.” The spokesperson from the Local Hero mentioned, “Currently, the spirits among our fans are soaring as Leicester City continues to show resilience and determination on the pitch. There's a palpable sense of hope and excitement for what the future holds.” Following the promotion, Manager Enzo Maresca said: “I feel so proud to see the hard work of everybody associated with Leicester City throughout the entire season rewarded with our promotion to the Premier League. ” He went on to say: “We’re determined to end this season in first place and lift that trophy in front of our supporters at King Power Stadium on the final day.” The last time the Foxes were promoted to the first division, they lifted the Premier League trophy two seasons later. Could their Cinderella story have a sequel?
