Dave Halliday, whom you mention as Sunderland’s would-be record scorer in 1925, was City’s manager when I first became a fan in 1957. He got us promoted (my first Second Division championship) but left the following year to go back to Aberdeen, where he was a scout for us until he died in 1970.

You know, they weren't really a big club. The Revie Years (1961-74) were their years of greatest success, but although they won the league and the FA Cup, they were runners up or beaten finalists many more times.
