They disallowed it because there was a clear foul denying a goalscoring opportunity for Haaland. So that's where they have to pull it back regardless of what happens after.

That last sentence is the main point. VAR has no need to get involved there. It's saturated the game. Got to the point where the excitement is sapped because of needing to bring the play back.
