  1. If Farage and Badenoch scream about us sending our ships into a war that’s not ending anytime soon and has nothing to do with us because Trump has got himself in over his head, then it only shows they care more about America’s interest than Britain’s. Why the hell should we be dragged into this potentially years or decades long war because Trump thought he could overthrow a 50 year regime in a few days and screwed up This is America and Israel’s war, they should be sending their own ships and their own men to risk death for it not British ships and people
  2. Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. 2 of the funniest people ever.

  5. A legend is that Indian immigrant cancer specialist at LRI who took over my mothers treatment and got on her a trail of experimental drugs which extended her life by 15 years, when other cancer doctors we saw just proscribed what was there. It’s not about being famous, or changing the world, it’s about impacting real people’s lives like that man did for my family.
  6. And leaving the biggest trading block in the world. What do people expect? People voted to cut back all our public spending and to leave ourselves economically isolated from our own continent and all our neighbours. Why are we surprised we haven’t got a pot to piss in and our country has fallen on the world stage? You get what you vote for.
  7. Sadly died a couple of years ago but inventor/scientist James Lovelock must have had a hell of an entertaining life. Here is is as a 101 year old with his eyes lighting up like a cheeky school kid who’d just got one over his teacher.

  10. I mean, Zelenskyy is the obvious one in today’s world. But less political I think of Tarn Adams who has been making the phenomenal video game Dwarf Fortress for over 25 years with help from his brother and a 3rd person finally brought on board a few years ago. Pretty much hands down the most ambitious example of a “indie” video game ever largely made by a single individual to the point where the every character in the game even has their own short and long term memory systems and just a really cool guy when interviewed and to people who play the games.
  11. It’s clever language - it clearly is meant to be a veiled threat but also written in a way with plausible deniability where they can say “we meant from your own regime”
  12. They treat it like it’s all a game. I think someone else said it, but the USA doesn’t have the same scars of the world wars as Europe does, it was essentially a faraway foreign war for them like Iraq or Afghanistan was for us with no real chance of hurting them at home, of course sad for the proportion of the population who lost family members in invasions but it didn’t affect everyone in the country in the same way. They didn’t have the air raids, the rationing, the blackouts, the evacuations, the seeing friends and family members die, the seeing cities you’d visited turned to rubble, the having to kill your beloved family dog or cat so they couldn’t make noise at night, they don’t have those stories that got passed down by parents or grandparents like we all do. As such, they don’t have the same cultural understanding of what war really means to individuals at an animalistic survival level like we do in Europe (or like they do in China and Japan). That’s why they can still treat it like a game like this.
  13. The worst is when people are on the bus, train or metro and just watching YouTube or ticktok with the sound turned up and no headphones, like they want everyone to listen to the shitty conspiracy theory video they’re watching

  16. Same thing happened to Stalin - get rid of anyone who dares disagree with you and surround yourself with people who think you’re the 2nd coming of Christ and will say yes to anything you want while calling anyone who argues with you a “woke cancer” and yeah, you won’t be making carefully critiqued and debated arguments anymore
  17. What about Iain Hume’s penalty miss vs Sheffield Wednesday that sent us down to League One?

  21. That’s fair I was being overly sarcastic I apologise. I think it’s the same all round the world though tbh in secondary cities, the economy of most countries even those that didn’t deindustrialise has sort of congregated towards the 2 or 3 big cities of a country and these mid size cities have been left behind a bit Lived in Portsmouth for a long while and they managed to survive by turning into a student city in the 00s and early 10s, but that’s all falling apart now as less people are going to uni and visa restrictions are even making it harder to get the international students to cover the costs. They’ve tried revitalising a few parts of the city and the seafront which looks nice but it’s hard to know where they city is going to go next, there’s still the old arcades on the seafront from the 60s where it used to be a south coast holiday town that look very out of date now.
  22. I would imagine the biggest conflict in human history in which every city had to transform into a military-industrial complex breaking out 3 years later and and which completely bankrupted the country probably had a lot to do with it
