Izzy Posted 23 June 2016 Author Posted 23 June 2016 Best ever player argument aside, watching the documentary tonight, didn't realise how shit and bumpy the pitch was, makes Maradona's 2nd even more impressive Indeed. Players today are spoilt to death with the playing surfaces. Makes you wonder how good Maradona, Pele, Cruyff, Best etc. would have been playing on today's carpets. P.S. What about that crowd in the Azteca stadium. 115,00 wow
Stadt Posted 23 June 2016 Posted 23 June 2016 But, and my point was, once on the big stage you have to do something to cement your place as the very best. And Maradona dragged Argentina to a World Cup win. Messi had the chance, and although he did brilliantly to drag Argentina to the final, he missed that one on one. Score that and he cements himself. I am under the impression that if you go to Argentina (and I've never been) they adore Maradona more because he actually won it for them. I read an article a while ago which said that because Messi left Argentina at 13 (I think) that they just don't have the same affinity for him as they do for Aguero as an example
