Izzy Posted 22 June 2016 Posted 22 June 2016 This may have been mentioned in another thread so please merge if so. I can't believe it's 30 years today since that cheating cvnt Maradona robbed us of a World Cup semi final place. We started slowly in Mexico 86 but came good and could well have gone on to win it I reckon. What a great England team that was. Shilton, Butcher, Hoddle, Barnes, Lineker (complete with Vardy cast ), Waddle, Beardsley and injured/suspended Wilkins and Robson. I know it's impossible to compare eras, but how many of the current England crop would get in that side? Not many I'd say..
Corky Posted 22 June 2016 Posted 22 June 2016 Howard Webb agreed the ref was unsighted so couldn't be certain that it was handball and the goal should stand.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 22 June 2016 Posted 22 June 2016 One of those games I remember clear as it was a few days ago. Criminal, though his other goal was shear genius. Howard Webb agreed the ref was unsighted so couldn't be certain that it was handball and the goal should stand. Classic Corky!
BoyJones Posted 22 June 2016 Posted 22 June 2016 The ref knew, just like the Uruguayan against Gernany. If he didn't see what tens of thousands saw, he shouldn't have been given the job.
boots60 Posted 23 June 2016 Posted 23 June 2016 When you're younger you can eat what you like, drink what you like & still slip into your 26 inch waist trousers & zip them closed. Then your muscles give up & wave a little white flag & all of a sudden your a fat bastard. Carter USM on Diego
MrSpaM Posted 23 June 2016 Posted 23 June 2016 Can't believe I remember this so vividly considering I was 3 years old at the time
Mike Oxlong Posted 23 June 2016 Posted 23 June 2016 Cvnt's got chubby fingers now Too much hand in fridge
Fox92 Posted 23 June 2016 Posted 23 June 2016 good one Maradona dragged Argentina to a World Cup, nothing tops that. Messi missed that one on one in the '14 final, that's significant.
Stadt Posted 23 June 2016 Posted 23 June 2016 Messi is the best player ever, winning the WC doesn't reflect a players ability
Soar Fox Posted 23 June 2016 Posted 23 June 2016 There's something unlikeable about Steve Hodge. Don't know if it's because he claims he intentionally meant to pass it back to Shilton or the fact that he took Maradona's shirt.
GaelicFox Posted 23 June 2016 Posted 23 June 2016 Messi is the best player ever, winning the WC doesn't reflect a players ability Well that's bollox ....I saw maradona play for Napoli , no one I have ever seen since comes close NO ONE Messi is certainly on a George Best level but behind Pele and Maradona for me It's a team sport if inspiring your team mates to world cups is NOT the ultimate most important thing then we are not talking about football Maradona dragged Argentina to a World Cup, nothing tops that. Messi missed that one on one in the '14 final, that's significant. THIS !!!!!!!!
Fox92 Posted 23 June 2016 Posted 23 June 2016 Messi is the best player ever, winning the WC doesn't reflect a players ability I know it doesn't, but I didn't say that. Some of the greatest players ever never won a World Cup - Cruyff, Van Basten, Platini, Di Stefano, Puskas, Best... I can go on. But, and my point was, once on the big stage you have to do something to cement your place as the very best. And Maradona dragged Argentina to a World Cup win. Messi had the chance, and although he did brilliantly to drag Argentina to the final, he missed that one on one. Score that and he cements himself. I am under the impression that if you go to Argentina (and I've never been) they adore Maradona more because he actually won it for them. Messi ain't the best player ever either, Cruyff is. edit: Who am I to tell you who the best player is. There are too many players to pick from and everybody has their own opinion but, in my opinion, and as a complete player Cruyff is the greatest ever for me.
Cheese Posted 23 June 2016 Posted 23 June 2016 Maradona dragged Argentina to a World Cup, nothing tops that. Messi missed that one on one in the '14 final, that's significant. When did Messi miss a one on one at the World Cup? If I remember correctly it was Higuain that missed that significant chance in the final. I may be incorrect but that would be a strange occurrence.
Nalis Posted 23 June 2016 Posted 23 June 2016 Best ever player argument aside, watching the documentary tonight, didn't realise how shit and bumpy the pitch was, makes Maradona's 2nd even more impressive
Cheese Posted 23 June 2016 Posted 23 June 2016 I have never understood why it was called the hand of god. I don't see what religion has to do with it. In my opinion it should have been called 'The hand of doom' or 'the hand of death'
Izzy Posted 23 June 2016 Author Posted 23 June 2016 I have never understood why it was called the hand of god. I don't see what religion has to do with it. In my opinion it should have been called 'The hand of doom' or 'the hand of death' Maradona himself admitted that the goal was scored partly by him, and partly by the hand of God. Which a convenient excuse when you know you're really a cheating cvnt.
