Lineker's Left Foot Posted 27 September 2005 Posted 27 September 2005 My favourite period of music concerns the late 70s and early 80s - I believe is such a genius period in music that it had so many experimental bands. The scenes of the time ranged from some Reggae (e.g. later Clash) and Ska (Specials, Selector) through to New Wave (Talking Heads), New Romantics (Japan) and experimental electronic music (Cabaret Voltaire). Plus, we also had some fantastic bands starting out including The Cure and Simple Minds as well as experimental early Human League, Soft Cell through to Joy Division being at their peak before the death of Ian Curtis. What is everybody else's favourite era?

What is everybody else's favourite era? The Clash and the Specials are two of my favourite bands but as for the others..... I am afraid they are not on my list! as for my favourite era, I like music from many different eras but I would have to say my favourite would have to be the 90's because that is when I did most of my growing up and discovered new sounds which I guess is why you like the late 70's early 80's

I own Joy Division's 'substance' which is excellent, I prefer early Clash though. I bet it was a good era, everything was better before I was born.

Late 70's early 80's De Mont had some great bands playing,almost eveyry other day there'd be something worth going to see Buzzcocks,Banshees,The Cure,Joy Division,The Clash,Two Tone Tour,Simple Minds,Japan,Blondie etc etc saw em all it was a fookin great time to be into yer live bands. The Uni and the Charlotte had some quality on as well !!! Half Man Half Biscuit Only decent band i saw at Granby Halls though was The Stranglers
Guest Posted 4 October 2005 Posted 4 October 2005 Grew up watching The Old Grey Whistle Test, fantastic show, great bands. Loved The Specials, The Beat, The Clash, and loads more. Music has never been the same.

I also like some of the bands that were around then that had coily-sounding guitars and political lyrics (early Gang of Four, Mission of Burma, etc.). Now, when lazy music critics are referring to new bands that have "post-punk" guitars (i.e. Futureheads), they're likening those bands to Go4 or MoB.
