We're tired??..

When Andy Murray progresses in a tennis competition, his opponents have also been playing a game a day (as they will have won the same amount of games to get to that particular round), so it is a level playing field when they compete. Also if he plays in a number of tournaments over say a month a lot of his competitors are too, and the ones who are not playing as many games are not as talented, so naturally although they may be a little fresher - his skill will pull him through. It is a poor comparison to make to footballers.

And there is such a misconception and misunderstanding of what is meant when people say things such as "how can a footballer be tired - i used to play 3 times a week!". They do not actually mean they are tired like they need a sleep. What it refers to is that they are not 100% at their peak physical condition, and in elite sport this makes such a difference as even being a couple of % off your game – when your opponent is on the top of their game can make a big difference. And our players are clearly feeling the effects of a long period of high pressure football both mentally and physically. The pre-season tour (although I think we had to do it for the exposure we got), was awful for our preparation and the players never really had a break from last season.

Players could play every day of the year if they wanted, but they would not give a very good performance by the end of the week. There is a big difference between being “able” to play every day and being able to play “well” everyday.

There are some really good posts on this forum but some of the drivel on here, and i think its mainly from people who have never played the game - is mind numbing.

That's a good post apart from the level playing field which it obviously wasn't for Murray. He's played vastly more tennis than anyone else as he's entered more tournaments and then gone all the way in all four tournaments. Normally he'd limit his ATP 500s but as he needed them he had too enter.

The orginal point is still not relevant I agree the two sports are demanding but so different and in terms of talent we are not relatively comparable to him.

Well,  we certainly aren't taking advantage of being champions of England.. and that beetroot deuce isn't helping the players!

Perhaps we need to make more of a racket at the KP?

We need to court Silva and get him in come January!, he'd be an ace signing for us.

We need a fault less few games leading up to Christmas.
