We're tired??..

Can someone please explain why footballers/Managers use this pathetic  excuse?

Andy Murray has just become world no 1.. winning FOUR tournaments in  FOUR WEEK'S.. playing 4 or 5 matches per week,  on court for an average of TWO HOURS PER MATCH!...

How can you compare that physical output to a pampered, overpaid footballer!

Posted

strongly agree.

no doubt the travelling, pressure and actual physical exercise will take its toll but these are highly trained athletes and like you say, highly paid.

if we are tired then why hoof the ball back to the opposition so we have to chase them time and time again?

whenever a player/manager talks about tiredness its just a kop out but they cant really say they were shít or couldnt be bothered.

Three days rest/two days rest then a day training again is probably the average for many teams now.

Need to get used to it and use the right players appropriately.

Can't be used as an excuse really.

Yeah seeing off a bunch of no-marks in the Timbuktu Masters is definitely the same as playing footy at the top level.

You obviously are very knowledgeable about the Tennis World?.. Murray has won Wimbledon,  Olympic Gold,  The Davis Cup,  and numerous other tough tournaments THIS calender year... sometimes on court for 5 hours in one match.. That's Three football matches in ONE day!

...Yeah you're right you can't compare playing footie at this top level!

You are aware masters events are only open to the top 50 players in the world and the all play if fit.

We've just lost to a team that view Jeffrey as a improvement on their wide options.

Was that all in the last four weeks as you said? It wasn't.

Yeah I am right to be honest, it's a ridiculous comparison given Murray plays tennis, a completely different sport. Unless you've played both at the top level I'm not sure you can comment on what is more tiring and when. Playing surface area, tactics, exertion, training routines and much more are all very different. That's before starting on the fact that one is an individual sport and one is a team sport.

In the last four weeks he's won 2 APT titles in the far east,  one in Vienna and one in Paris...

Isn't fitness even more of an issue in an individual sport?.. no hiding place on a tennis court!..

I think you can compare levels of fitness with different sportsmen in different sports,  why not?

Not greatly comparable, tennis is largely an intermittent sport with large periods of rest in, the average play for a point being between 3-15 seconds depending on the surface. Murray won't be training during these weeks either, he will have trained and then tapered for this months worth of competitions. He'll probably now begin to ease off again and look towards getting back to peak fitness for the new year. Also not the best example for a sport where players largely take a lot of time off throughout the year due to fatigue or withdraw through illness.

Football you have 7 weeks to prepare players for a 35 week season in which they have weekly league fixtures, cup competitions, and at the elite level international fixtures. Peak fitness in field sports such as rugby and football usually decreases at the 11-week mark, sometimes quicker in starters. Each game is 90 minutes in which a player will cover around 8km minimum, which includes sprints, jumps, and a lot of repeated high intensity running. They train to a high intensity to maintain fitness, undertake technical and tactical sessions, conditioning sessions, and gym based training sessions throughout a week. While they are paid a very good sum to do this, they also have the pressure of getting good results and performing well. On top of their careers they have families, relationships and a social life, which we are all aware isn't always easy. Tired won't always be physical but mental as well. Yes it's not your typical 9-5 job, yes their not working two jobs to support a family, but their also not machines and it'd irresponsible to think otherwise.

If you're good enough it shouldn't matter that much, Barca play way more than us and get through it because they are just far better players. Perhaps as poorer players, we do physically need to be at 100% to be able to produce the goods.

As for Murray, he averages just over 2k run per match, which would mean his entire week long tournament of 5 rounds he'd run about what Shinji runs during the course of one game. It's also not just about distance run but the types of sprints and the lengths of them, rest periods etc. So it's a bloody ridiculous comparison.

Keep telling people they're tired and they will be tired.

It's all bollocks.

Never hear a winning team say 'we won but are now really tired especially towards end of the game '

Just a BS excuse

of course it is a lot more tiring when you don't have the ball which is why we need to hold on to it more and not just counter attack teams. we have a big enough squad to be able to rotate and keep everyone as fresh as possible.no one at this stage of the season should be complaining that they are tired, it is a pathetic excuse

Murray is playing next Sunday at the O2,  then the Australian Open is in January. ..admittedly,  he'll have December off...

I'm not taking anything away from Murray, it's an incredible achievement just at the same time the training and competitive fixtures are completely different to football.

I would argue that the championship is a far more physical league than the premier league and we regularly played mid week and still smashed it. Just sounds like an excuse to me. Other teams manage it.

Fitness is fitness though!. .

But we'll agree to disagree.

In the longest tennis match of all time it's estimated that the players covered about 6 miles.

8 miles is average for one football game.

How much of that 8 miles is spent trotting around though? Alot. A tennis player plays alot more intense with arms and legs. Totally different sports though with different training. Hard to compare really.

Said it a few weeks back but we don't look fit enough. Well, certain players anyway.

And now it's an international break so the likes of Morgan and Okazaki will be travelling the World to play.
