There's a massive difference in a domestic embarrassing defeat and a CL mauling / debacle... One is spread all over every newspaper in Europe!..with headlines "The biggest CL defeat by any English club in the competition.. Ever!"...

A marketing disaster for our proud owners!

Back in the 70's we were playing West Brom at home it was after Bloomfield had been sacked.  West Brom had Cyrille Regis, Laurie Cunningham and Brendan Batson in their lineup.  We lost 5 0 Steve Kember stood behind the goal when they scored their fifth orchestrating the Kop as they sang in unison,. "What a load of rubbish"

losing to Bolton first game of the premier league season under Taylor and Wise was our Captain.  4 0 down at half time.

going to Ipswich can't remember the season scored first and it was 1 1 at half time.  Ended up losing 6 1.

There are many more so last night, considering the team he put out, was not a great shock and it certainly wasn't the worst performance ever.

6-2 at home to United,  5-0 at Arsenal a couple of weeks later, 4-0 at Wednesday although they'd already been relegated, another good one (6-1) away to Arsenal, THAT Bolton game, Villa at home (5-0) and the 6-1 at Portsmouth stick in the mind.

Watching us struggle to beat Hereford in the FA Cup was tough and I can remember us getting pumped 6-0 at home by Leeds in the League Cup during the Taylor/Bassett/Adams relegation season. Safe to say there's been a few as bad as last night!
