Inconsistent Refereeing

Recommended Posts

Without wanting to re-open the Vardy red card issue entirely (it's happened, we've all accepted it and moved on), Feghouli has had his red rescinded whilst Fernandinho has had his claim of wrongful dismissal rejected. Bournemouth are awaiting theirs against Francis last night to go in front of the FA. It seems that there has been a flurry of sudden red cards throughout the league for dangerous tackles, when the most dangerous are going (somewhat) unpunished, or at the very most, leniently punished. And even when the FA have the chance to get it right, there is even inconsistency within that process.

I think the majority of the football watching population would have far more sympathy to inconsistencies, or incorrect decisions, if there was a higher degree of transparency as to why these decisions are made. My only suggestion is that when these reviews are conducted, there is an explanation as to why they have been upheld, or declined.

Refs will always be inconsistent for the same reasons players do, they have off days. Ive seen some real good refs have absolute stinkers and you cant quite make out what caused them to make dodgy calls but bad positioning, misread challenges and the decisions that follow and even some get flustered depending on who the home team are. They are only human and to be honest have an almost impossible job, especially with the 50 TV cameras analysing every move they make.

Heard the appeal hearing included the following exchange :-

Panel member 1 - "Jones was caught by the West Ham players studs"

panel member 2 - "Feghouli's?"

panel member 1 - "No, on his thigh"
