Alexikokopops Posted 2 September 2004 Posted 2 September 2004 So, I feel like starting a thread about the best music gig you've been to. I thought of this 'cause I saw that playlist thread thing, and it had numerous songs by the Killers, and it made me think of my favourite show. My favourite show was at the Bivouac in Lincoln, a small venue above a pub called the Duke of Wellington, back in mid-November 2003. Anyway, it has a capacity of about 100-200 people, and I went to see one of my favourite bands ever, called British Sea Power (they are THE SHIT), and I was suprised enough that they were playing such a small venue. Anyway, we got there, and the supporting band was described only as "from Las Vegas, Nevada, USA", a then little-known band called the Killers, their first time in the UK. Anyway, I was right at the front, with no barriers, and they opened with "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine", and man it was sooooooooooooo good. British Sea Power then followed, and they were even better, it seriously was THE SHIT!! We had a nice chat with the Killers and BSP afterwards, and it was nice. Anyway, I fell in love with the Killers (I was already in love with BSP) and bought the original limited release of Mr Brightside, which them first released last September, and now goes for £30 on eBay, and since then I've been a big fan. I still have the flourescent orange poster upstairs on my wall, with all the other gigs from November 2003 on, ha. I saw them again a week later at Warwick Student Union, and both bands were just as good, plus it was the last night of the tour, WAY COOL!! So, what's the best show you've all been to? Music is fun.
TrickyTrev Posted 2 September 2004 Posted 2 September 2004 Wahey a fellow Heron addict!! I love British Sea Power and have been knpwn to rock with some trees at a few of their shows. Excellent band, don't like the Killers though.

rotherhamfox Posted 5 September 2004 Posted 5 September 2004 My fave show so far ive seen was the Stereophonics at Sheffields Hallam Arena, they were great.
TrickyTrev Posted 5 September 2004 Posted 5 September 2004 Radiohead- Southpark Oxford (2001) You had to be there to believe it. Tears I tell thee.
Alexikokopops Posted 5 September 2004 Author Posted 5 September 2004 Radiohead were FACKIN' A at the Nottingham Ice Arena back in November. You had to be there to believe it. Boners I tell thee. Ha. But it was ace, seriously.

But it was ace, seriously. 17231[/snapback] I was at that gig too. Bit of a Radiohead buff. I actually thought it was a slightly dissapointing show. Horrible venue that is for sure. As a live band they were still fantastic and if I had not seen Radiohead be so fantastic on numerous other occaisions I am sure I would have found it special too. I have decided on my top 3 sets of all time. 1. Radiohead- Oxford (2001) Just to be surrounded by so many Radioehad die-hards at there onyl gig in England for 2 years was amazing. An amazing set with all the classics. 2. The Libertines- Astoria (oxford street) (2004). When Pete was at his best, they were good. Rally good. 3.Faithless- Glastonbury (2002) great set of dance anthems in perfect weather in THE perfect location.
SilverFox Posted 5 September 2004 Posted 5 September 2004 REM last summer in Manchester, or U2 in Birmingham a few years ago on the Elevation tour...think it was 2000! Both brilliant gigs ...but then out of sentimentality, I did see Joe Strummer play at the Charlotte. Anyone who doesn't know who he is...basically the guiding light behind the Clash (they just about invented punk rock) That was an awesome night...V. intimate small venue, and he played all the hits.

But yeah, that was the only time I've got to see Radiohead, and since it cost me absolutely nothing, I thought it wasn't bad Also, mr SilverFox, you failed to mention that Joe Strummer took up vocal duties for the Pogues after Shane MacGowan left for a considerable period!! On a side note, I'M GOING TO SEE THE POGUES IN DECEMBER!! FACKIN' A!! I'm also off to see Hope Of The States at the end of October, now that should be good.

As for the Libertines, I'm not particularly into them, and so I'm too lazy to slightly stick up for them.

Guest Daniel Posted 8 September 2004 Posted 8 September 2004 Everyone knows that GLC have no talent, there just a piss take and very funny.

kerryh Posted 8 September 2004 Posted 8 September 2004 Oh dear indeed! I'd have to say Oasis at Earls Court, they were fantastic.

One is an amazing singer and pretty clevr lyracist, the other is the most revolutionary guitar player of my life time. OK computer is considered a classic by just about every serious music critic who has heard it. Smacks as ignorance to say there is no talent there, even if you don't like it.
Highland Posted 10 September 2004 Posted 10 September 2004 Radiohead are one of those bands who are beyond criticism, you don't sell as many albums as they have by having no talent. You might not like their music but you can't slag them as a band.I dislike the music of The Beatles but can see they were very talented.Radiohead are up there with The Stone Roses,The Jam,The Smiths,Oasis etc.
Lillehamring Posted 2 March 2009 Posted 2 March 2009 God, did you always use to talk like that, alexiKP
