lush Posted 10 October 2005 Posted 10 October 2005 Sorry but that's exactly the point I was trying to explain above... No, the baby won't be Italian, as Italy apply jus sanguis. Italian law says (at least did say when I last studied this stuff) that you have to have an Italian parent to be considered for Italian citizenship (except cases such as naturalisation etc). So that baby will be Scottish after all! (I thought you'd be pleased ) (If we are talking citizenship, passport...) Not pleased, amazed that the Italians wont accept their own. I get you now, so your not accepted as Scottish either. I suggest a strongly worded letter to the italian embassorder?

It's ok, they do accept me as 100% Italian (they just charge me double tax whenever possible because I live here) But yes, in some cases these different policies can cause problems on an international level. I believe that when this happens, it is possible to appeal and be taken into consideration as a special case. One of the two countries involved (or three, in some cases) should then offer citizenship to the newborn [At least that's my understanding of it, from when I last researched these matters]

Guest Posted 11 October 2005 Posted 11 October 2005 I am an eighth Scottish, and despite it erring on the tenuous side, I do feel Scottish. My ancestors on my father's side can be traced back to Cornwall. It's a Celtic name to, so I am descended from true British stock!!
Thracian Posted 11 October 2005 Posted 11 October 2005 All of us. What with the Normans, the Vikings, the Angles and the Saxons long before the West Indians, the Pakistanis and the Indians I can't imagine there's a thoroughbred left in the UK. Given we're in a Great Big Melting Pot anyway, perhaps all the World's great footballers should be enticed into a stud farm on retirement - based at the Walkers of course!!!
Rincewind Posted 11 October 2005 Posted 11 October 2005 The original thoroughbred UK resident would have been ones that lived in mud huts and sacrificed virgins to the Sun God. They moved to Nottingham when the Romans invaded.
Hitesh Posted 11 October 2005 Posted 11 October 2005 I class myself as British because i was born here, and i have a british passport. My family originates from India, so in theory i am Indian but i like to say British Asian.

Head Honcho Posted 11 October 2005 Posted 11 October 2005 How can a kenyan be british, let alone English? Why wont you ever be british or English? rossporter, isnt the only way to spell English, with a capital E? I know a black guy he speaks proper Leicester. I know hundreds of Black guys that speak proper Leicester wtf kind of reply is that. They aren't from Mars you know.
Head Honcho Posted 11 October 2005 Posted 11 October 2005 Do you speak with a Leicester accent then? Or can you do a mix of the two accents? Lost me accent when i was about 5 or 6 but my Mam has lived in Leicester for 38 of her 60 years and she still speaks with a Scottish accent. I've lived in Wales for 13 years so my accents now is a hybrid of Leicester and Welsh, more Leicester i'd like to think

As I said, it's easier to change accents when you move somewhere else within (or before) your teenage years. I cannot tell when someone speaks with a Welsh accent
