Guest Gist Posted 24 October 2005 Posted 24 October 2005 I think that 10th would be a reasonable finish although obviously most people will expect a play off place
Little Nicky Posted 24 October 2005 Posted 24 October 2005 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...ers/default.stm De Vries is 14th. Now that isn't bad, Look at Connolly last season, his tally was poor until his late flurry! De Vries will score about 15 I reckon! With support up there from another front man we would easily be in the play-offs, wont happen however!
City_4_Life Posted 24 October 2005 Posted 24 October 2005 I think this team is very capable of a play-off place its just that we need to be consistant through out the rest of the season
Libertine Posted 24 October 2005 Posted 24 October 2005 After Watford the general consensus was that we could get into the playoffs, then Burnley happened and we were all depressed again, now we've won against Coventry people are saying we can get into the playoffs again. <_< I'd be happy with a 9th to 11th finish myself.
cisono Posted 24 October 2005 Posted 24 October 2005 I thought this was a DeVries thread, not a "where will Leic City end up this season" thread...
Michael Doyle Posted 25 October 2005 Posted 25 October 2005 It doesn't matter where we finish in the league this year as long as we don't get sucked into the relegation battle. We need to consolidate and blend as a team. Get behind the players with the well known great Leicester City support. MDV is a Leicester Player, He is scoring goals and is the clubs leading striker. To those on his back get of it and encourage him to get better. To those that are supporting him WELL DONE. Come on Leicester get behind this developing team. With the exception of the Burnley game the last three games have produced 6 points. Its a positive sign. As is beginning to win at home again. 15 league games into the season and the signs are positive not negative. Signs of improvement not backward steps. Signs that a new squad of players are beginning to gel. MDV has to be the selected in front of all the other strikers in the first instance. COME ON YOU FOXES
surrifox Posted 25 October 2005 Posted 25 October 2005 I thought this was a DeVries thread, not a "where will Leic City end up this season" thread... I can't see why De Vries is vilified (in certain quarters) compared with say Benjamin who was equally cumbersome , scored less goals and was less involved in general link-ups, didn't use his size or strength to advantage (except when punching Stan C.) and cost over a million. We all thought "poor old Trev he's a trier and a good club man we'll give a break"- MDV has earned some respect
wirralsimon Posted 25 October 2005 Posted 25 October 2005 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...ers/default.stm De Vries is 14th. Now that isn't bad, Look at Connolly last season, his tally was poor until his late flurry! De Vries will score about 15 I reckon! With support up there from another front man we would easily be in the play-offs, wont happen however! He's only listed at 14th, he's on 6 goals with a bunch of others so he is equal 6th! He's got a couple of cup goals to add to that tally, so that would put him comfortably in the top 10 strikers in the division, which isn't bad for 50k and wages that are probably a quarter of what PT was playing fringe players. I agree with theearlier about awkward-looking players. There seems to be a lot of people who can't tell the difference between sh*te and inelegant. Being gangly and awkward-looking does not make you a bad player. Looking fanstastic on the ball does not make you a good player. It isn't hard to grasp, but this simple point seems beyond the grasp of so many people. Simon
lcfcsoul66 Posted 25 October 2005 Posted 25 October 2005 He's not the best player but he works hard. We've got to play him because Elvis Hammond won't score 8 goals in his whole career!
Barwell Posted 26 October 2005 Posted 26 October 2005 Ive been reading the forums and most people are slating MDV but i beleive he is doin great 4 us n deserves some credit 4 his performances! I bet my mate £5 that he wouldn't reach 11 goals this season, but so far it's not looking too good & I'll be glad if he proves me wrong, as long as he keeps scoring way after his 11th.
Thracian Posted 26 October 2005 Posted 26 October 2005 As someone has already commented, we paid around £50,000 (may have been more can't remember) and have a player who has scored as many goals as £3.5million Dean Ashton and £6 million rated Andy Johnson. That's not a bad return. Get over the fact he looks cumbersome, lacks pace, has the turning circle of a small roll-on roll-off ferry and he is not a bad striker at this level. MDV is doing well and deserves to be our first-choice striker. Well played MDV. How much would you rate him at now? Ought to be a decent premium I would say.
