Thracian Posted 24 October 2005 Share Posted 24 October 2005 Impossible to say with any certainty. a) No-one seen much of Gerrbrand to know whether he warrants being chosen. b) It depends what you are trying to do - system and tactics. c) Is Chambers better than Hammond or Hume - how can you judge when Chambers has played virtually no first team football but has been scoring for fun and the two others have played loads but not scored. d) I've felt that Stearman was a better all round full-back than Maybury but it would be hard to argue the case on Saturday. But, Maybury's had bad games this season too. Anyway, in the spirit of the thing I'll have a go: Douglas; Stearman/Maybury (no preference just now), Dion, McCarthy (may well be Gerrbrand but no real evidence), Sheehan (no doubt whatsoever in my mind); Goal-Smith, Hughes, Joey/Tiatto (both are good Rottweilers, but Tiatto/Sheehan make for a more attacking left is not using a specialist winger although Gold-Smith would roam) ; Hammond, MDV, Hume (behind the front two). Fair enough, but havnt we already played them together on occasions, and not scored?
Libertine Posted 24 October 2005 Share Posted 24 October 2005 Fair enough, but havnt we already played them together on occasions, and not scored? Only once at Derby I think, and we had the ball in the back of the net twice with Elvis scoring both, but they were given as offside, when at least one wasn't. We played very well in the second half, especially when Smith came on.

Gené and Tonic Posted 24 October 2005 Share Posted 24 October 2005 What I wrote in the "new formation" thread. 3-4-3 DefenseThe back three would be relitively tight, with Weso tracking back to help them. Midfield The centre pairing would work with Weso being the holding player, and Hughes going forward to spread the play out to the wings, or to De Vries, to aid our attacks. The wingers would be given license to go forward, but Smith more so than Sylla, as he has the best work rate and ability out of the two. Sylla is also good at tracking back and going in for tackles which is why it makes sense for him to not go forward quite so much as Smith. Up Front Hammond and Hume would come in from the wings and link up with De Vries, who would be a holding striker, looking to play Hume and Hammond into the space behind defenders. That forward line, along with Sylla and Smith coming foward would strike fear into the heart of any defense in the division. Of course, in the necessary circumstances, Smith and Sylla could operate as wing backs, but that would happen very rarely. With this formation, players could be swapped in and out when necessary quite easily. Sheehan for Johansson, Kisnorbo/Gudjonsson for Wesolowski, Williams for Hughes, Stearman for McCarthy, Dublin for De Vries, Hammil for Hammond (with Smith moving into the forward role) Home games, play 3-4-3, away, play 3-5-2.
