Yep this is the arse of the rule. It’s so stacked against an attacker. 
 

One of the podcasts mentioned a scenario where say if a corner is taken, attackers heads it against a defenders hand. Correctly viewed as non deliberate. Counter attacks goes on defender team score. What’s the referee do then? Call it all the way back for a penalty or an indirect free kick nine yards from goal? 
 

Equally Krul pulls off the save to Kelechi’s shot. Corner comes in and we score off it. The goal would stand

The old law needed to be fiddled with - that meant a goal could legitimately be scored with an arm or hand.  But they decided to take it back further to be included in the immediate build up to a goal.  Thinking back, shinji’s goal at Everton would have been ruled out cos Marc blocks the clearance near the touchline with an arm. You had soton’s goal at our place in the league cup ruled out by var under the old law as that was judged to be deliberate handball as the player charged down the clearance though his hand wasn’t high as I recall 

 

I suspect they will change the new law but they will take their time to try and make sure that they have covered all possible angles re injustices that may result.  There is no planned discussion at the current IFAB conference so I would presume the law will remain in its current guise next season.
