That's in the daily mail which tells you everything but why shouldn't they demand £50m for him? We live in stupid times now where players go for stupid fees. Norwich will get relegated with a parachute package, they didn't overspend this year unlike the other promoted teams, so they probably don't need the money.

 

If we were in their position we'd be demanding stupid fees for our better players. In fact we don't need to be in that position, just look at how much we got for Maguire.

 

Also I saw loads of people, mainly the weirdos on football twitter, saying "how is he worth that much if he got relegated". Well first off we all know he's not worth that much in the context of things but he's worth that much to Norwich. And I suspect both full backs and Cantwell will be worth even more to them. Also plenty of relegated players have been snapped up; a relegation doesn't make them a bad player. I'm pretty sure West Ham got relegated with Joe Cole, Les Ferdinand, Michael Carrick all in the team. Not bad footballers were they.

Careful not to fall down the hole of 'there's no way that X player from X club is not worth X amount'... Players are worth whatever their club values them at, and we've sort of set a precedent for the 'smaller clubs' holding their ground and getting a lot of money for not that brilliant players...

Exactly. United paid more for Maguire than Liverpool did for Van Dijk but is Maguire better than Van Dijk? No chance. A bigger fee doesn't mean the player is better, it's just the value of the player to the selling club.
