FOSSE V LUFFS - Leicestershire's Forgotten Football Rivalry 1884 - 1900

This just popped up on my Facebook page.

By Nigel Freestone
Fosse v Luffs is a story filled with drama, excitement, controversy - and violence - about a footballing rivalry as intense as any in modern English football.
The Fosse (forerunner of Leicester City) were the dominant club in the town of Leicester, and Loughborough (the Luffs) were the biggest and most successful team in the county of Leicestershire. Each encounter between these two sides was a battle for supremacy within the county.
Fosse v Luffs charts the growth of the rivalry, from amateur games played in front of a handful of family and friends to Football League encounters witnessed by 10,000-plus spectators, with thousands more eagerly awaiting the outcome.

May be an image of book and text that says "pitch FOSSE V LUFFS NIGEL FREESTONE FOSSE V LUFFS LEICESTERSHIRE'S FORGOTTEN FOOTBALL RIVALRY LEICESTERSHIRE'S FORGOTTEN FOOTBALL RIVALRY NIGEL FREESTONE"

Looks great.

The timing of the release is a bit poignant too - with (hopefully) lots of Leicester fans heading for Loughborough for Bernie's funeral on March 9th, as @lcfcfem has suggested.  Here's a reminder:

Wish I could be there.

Thanks for the reminder. It is so hard to ascertain numbers. There could be 20, 200 or 2000. I just want to give him a send off he deserves.

I follow a Facebook group called Remembering Loughborough or similar. It’s basically just a load of old gits whinging about how much better Loughborough was in the olden days and inexplicably blaming the council for everything going downhill. However, I recently saw some images posted of the old Loughborough ground.

I’m too young to remember it, but it was located where the Leisure Centre is now, just under the shadow of the Carillon.
