mbd123 Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 you will never make a team out of the rubbish you have brought to this club, you have no idea what a football managers job is, the sooner you get booted out the better, Kisnorbo captain or even City first team player - whats that about? Please, let the board grow some b###ux and get shut.

I know what you mean and am not afraid to admit I agree with you, I would also be interested to see if the views of the people a couple of month back who where backing CL and not calling for his head have changed there minds?

Thracian Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 I'm not sure it is the players. Unusually, perhaps, I think the major problem is the manager. And my point was illustrated in technicolour this evening. The first 15/20 minutes were an embarrassment. We barely got a kick and hardly saw the ball at all on the West stand side cos Watford were carving us into pieces on the opposite flank. They could have been two or three up in that time. Then Levein made his only bright move of the night, switching the full-backs. The balance gradually changed. We equalised and then for 20 minutes each side of half-time we went ahead, could have scored more and played some of the best ball-to-feet attacking football I've seen from us this season (admittedly against 10 men for part of the time). The point is that once we scored, confidence soared and the team showed they could play a bit and battle a bit. There were even cameos of sublime entertainment from Smith and Stearman. Hammond had a goal disallowed, we were rampant and could easily have won three or four one. Then, inexplicably, Levein started his pointless and match-losing tinkering. The focus switched to defence. Attackers were replaced by people like Dublin and Tiatto who quickly turned up, unwanted in and around our penalty area creating a crowd and confusion. The rhythm of the team disappeared, Tiatto contributed his usual upenders within minutes of coming on, then he went onto the left wing where he tried to cross through people instead of placing his passes. Hoof-ball started onto Dublin's head - it was all a Levein-managed comedy of errors climaxing in Dublin shooting wide with only the goallie to beat from somewhere near the penalty spot - some f.....g centre-forward. They equalised and from then on in we were needing a goal but were missing three of our attackers. We've all shouted and screamed about fielding a full compliment of attacking players but Levein cocked up because he thought we'd done the job, stupidly tried to tighten what didn't need tightening and meanwhile left attackers like Hume on the bench (in a fit of childish pique, I believe). Levein threw those points away, just as so often this season. The team was fine while they were playing football which is all our new manager will need to ensure when we get one - as surely we must.

Thanks Thracian you've saved me precious time with that. Sad but true - Levein lost us that game and how ironic that we end up with a novice at left back who never the less out shone Maybury by a mile!
Chimp Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 I'll agree that I would have liked to have seen CL keep the same 11 on the pitch throughout, there didn't seem to be any reason to substitute Smith, MDV or Sylla. Sure, they were looking a bit tired but Watford had all but given up at that point, they weren't posing any threat. HOWEVER, the equalising goal didn't come from any kind of consistent or commanding play from Watford. It came from a lucky punt into the box and a momentary loss of concentration from McCarthry and Rab. So, though the subs were dissapointing, in my opinion, they didn't contribute overly to the loss of the victory.
Katy Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 I was 100% behind Levein, I could see what he was trying to do and has worked wonders with the off field side of things and im sensible enough to know it takes time to get your own team together, get them playing as you would like and getting results etc, the latter doesnt quite seem to be happening and I was still 100% until after last nights game. I would say its about 75% now, maybe its just the disappointment of last nights game I dunno. I just cant see how getting rid of Levein now is going to help things in the long run.

I wouldn't mind betting that those 3 substitutions contributed to the loss of concentration.

TornadoShaunUK Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 I think it might be a good move to get a new manager while George Burley is available. I bet he'd come here and do a good job. If we can't get him then I can't really see us being any better off than we are now... =/
Thracian Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 I wouldn't mind betting that those 3 substitutions contributed to the loss of concentration. No question at all. It was seconds after Tiatto came on that he was upending Young on the edge of the box and only a few seconds after that that he was in no-mans land near our penalty area watching the cross that ended with Watford's equaliser. There wasn't one positive aspect to the substitutions and the only change needed was to replace Smith (who seemed injured) with a forward like Hume. I don't know that I'd have done it but that would have been justified. In no way would that have resulted in hoof-ball to Dublin etc. We'd have maintained the passing and moving approach that served us so well.
Hullfox Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 i had to put my hands in my head when i saw that! Sounds painful that
The People's Hero Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 Levein is a pathetic excuse for a football manager. It's been said time and again. He's arrogant, he's stubborn, he's tactically naive, he's overly cautious, he lacks tact when dealing with players, he underestimated the Championship and everything about the man smells of fear and ineptitude. I can't believe people are saying that he's going to get better and suddenly develop some tactical nous and attacking instincts/inclination. He never did at hearts and there have been no signs in his reign here that it will happen here either. Whether we would get relegated or not under CL is not the issue. The fact is we should be somewhere near the top.. we certainly have the players to be higher in the league. CL is holding us back and the board should show some balls and killer instinct (something CL lacks) and get rid of him.

Head Honcho Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 I'm hoping that last nights game was to CL what the Sheffield United game was to MON, but it's very doubtful. It will probably go down as the game where CL lost the support of the majority of the fans.
