Tbf this point about keepers isn’t particularly related to just Leicester.

Ramsdale (Bolton), Pope (Ipswich/Bury Town) and Henderson (Carlisle) for example were all signed during their youth career before signing professional terms.

I’ve just counted at least 8 of the existing no. 1s in the PL were ‘poached’ in their youth careers

Ironically, that is precisely the point i was trying to make.

Seems lower league clubs with more limited resources (ie Sunderland, Carlisle, Bolton, wimbledon, Ipswich etc...) are more likely to develop a GK as their financial survival is dependent upon developing players either for their first X1..... or to sell to generate revenue.

As such, they need to be more reliant on the quality of their coaches as they are not in a position to be able to simply buy (poach!) the finished article at 18 years old that the wealthier clubs are able to.

There is NO geographical, economic or social factors that would make Leics less likely to produce a goalkeeper than Cumbria, Lancashire, wearside or Suffolk......it is more likely the quality of coaches and the need to produce players simply for the club to survive financially. If you need to develop players to survive, then it follows that you also need top quality coaches to be able to do that...!

If i were in charge of recruiting for an academy GK coach, i think i would be impressed by the CV of a GK coach who could actually provide evidence of professional keepers they had developed.....as opposed to those from LCFC who with all their available resources, have failed to produce a single pro GK through their system in the last 8-10 years?

(PS is it just coincidence that Chris Kirkland is the only Top Pro GK from Leics in the last 15 years....and he was never at LCFC academy?)

Personally I think it’s more to do with scouting at youth levels. Keepers are a special breed with physical attributes more important and that develops later hence plenty more examples of keepers making it from lower league clubs. Bigger clubs try to always get the start on players by scouting them younger etc whilst clubs without the resources simply can’t. When it levels up at 16 to 18, the pool of outfield players is so much larger that bigger clubs succeed.

There’s a talent drain on coaching as well and those coaches which have earned their reputation find themselves progressing. So I don’t think it’s solely that.

I do not know about any of the below, especially compared to other counties but

What 10 year old wants to be the keeper if you are playing on concrete?

How are the public facilties and green spaces in Leicester nowadays for a kick about with other local kids?

How many schools have on site grass playing fields reserved for athletics, football, or cricket etc?

(Does health and saftey even allow playtime tennis balls and jumpers on concrete anymore?)

Basically, we played on grass loads when I was 10.

Assuming the nippers still go and kick a real, not virtual, ball, any of them want to play in goal?
