He's Danish, so not much change of being a future England no 1.

Never heard of him

Signed a fairly highly rated Keeper in the England youth ranks from Hartlepool I believe.

Not heard much about him since, but thats probably because we have about 10 18+ keepers on the books

Posted (edited)

Danny Ward - 29 - Wales

Daniel Iversen - 25 - Denmark

Jakub Stolarczyk - 21 - Poland

Brad Young - 20 - England

Chituru Odunze - 19 - USA

Arlo Doherty - 18 - Ireland

Kelechi Chibueze - 18 - England

(Ages as of the start of the 22/23 season)

As far as I'm aware, these are all the keepers currently in the first-team and youth ranks. I'm sure there are others vying to make the step up to the U18s.

Some or all of these have been hyped as being good enough to be our #1 either now or in the future. I guess we have to trust the coaching staff about which ones we keep to compete with or replace Kasper, which ones we send out on loan and which ones we eventually sell.

If the talk around a lot of them is true, we'll be sorted for quality keepers for a while and we'll be able to make a bit money too, which will be crucial going forward.

If we can create an academy with the kind of reputation of Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea, our youngsters, if not good enough for the first team, will be able to contribute towards this sustainable model we're striving for.

Under the current GK Coaching set-up, i cant actually recall us producing a single keeper that has gone on to develop into a top-class keeper...?!?   Correct me if im wrong but last one i recall was Adam Smith about 10 years ago....and he ended up playing in Lg2

Most of the keepers we now have were bought in at +16 years old (Iversen and Young were 19) which makes me wonder WHY have we never been able to actually produce a keeper through our own system?

How come we seem able to develop outfield players from the Leicestershire area (Barnes, HKDH, Thomas etc) ......but our academy system is incapable of developing goalkeepers?

Is there something about Leicestershire that doesn't breed good goalkeepers......or are the Yth Development GK coaches paid to simply work with the talent that other clubs have developed for us?

Actually a good question..

Over the years 50s,60s,70s right upto 2000s. We had the knack & by tradition to find good G.keepers, even the reserves or 2nd/3rd String were a bit special...

Ward( quality-experience) Iverson( youth-investment)  might move forward with us...and it seems both can carry future International duties while wearing the foxes badge...Depends alot on our decision makes & whether they understand that mythical traditional character we had/have on that Gk-tradition...

We have seen some secondary coaches ruin our strengths & traditions, before...

Even though we have seen...Barnes,Choudhury,KDH, Thomas,Chilwell, and then 2 very young outside investments Fofana,Justin jump the queue somewhat..Our internal GKs nor CBs have bashed the door down..!!

I must also say (again) the forum, week in week out, has been lousy and totally vacant of any decent encouragement or support to new or Young players...& With a ready box of nails  too prepared to crucify..rather than show patience or actual understanding...

A major difference,(he earns & came with star refererence) but relevant example...Tielemans...Yes he had a below AVG season, with some highlights...BUT....he is/was our creator, but forced too many times in too many games to grovel & pedal on the Blackfoot...His service men...were not giving/allowing him his space & time to move regularly forward..

He was never a defensive grafter..!!

So ..I would shout out with joy if he stays..because like Maddison & Vardy they are unique, but injuries, poor form, for our top aspirations, our midfield couldn't consistently function..

Which then by its nature put too much pressure on the defence.

Give Tieleman,Maddison,Vardy,Barnes

.fit on the frontfoot teammates we will see a top performing team...

This quality of our mixed bursting youth, & Tielemans/Maddison skills are not easily plucked from bountifull trees..

So this indifference shown whether such players stay...shows also in our own fan-evolvement steps..

Lambast,crucify is so easy..!!

Sorry the last part had nothing directly to do with the GK questions + concerns, more indirectly on evolvement

of whole squad..

That's exactly my point....!

We have a history of Top quality GKs from the Leicestershire area.....so why haven't our GK coaches been able to develop a single ONE in the past 10 years from our expensively funded Academy system?

On what criteria are these GK coaches measured...?!?

(PS Too young for Banks, Just about remember Shilton in a Foxes shirt.....definitely remember Wallington & Chris Kirkland!)

To be fair, although my last post was a joke, there is a grain of truth in there.

Why release a goalkeeper at 8 because I couldn't at the time kick the ball very well? That sort of stuff can be trained quite easily. They said at the time that I had the goalkeeping attributes required, just needed to work on my kicking/distribution.

Surely that's the easiest thing to fix? So take what talent was there and improve the dodgy bit.

I'll get over it one day...

The player has to do some work too, you have to have the raw materials in the first place.

As I mentioned in the development thread, Teddy Sharman-Lowe released by us at 14. Within three years after being at Burton Albion, he's now a Chelsea player and in England Under 19s current squad.

So it's nothing to do with locality. Smith was actually picked up by us from Middlesbrough when he was 18.
