We are sleep walking into a right mess as it stands with us already likely yo do that next summer.

You're assuming we are. Who knows what the club is trying to do.

The easiest thing to do is just to lower our asking prices which gives the club control but may raise more interest.

The biggest problem isn't the asking price though I gather- its players either refusing to take a wage cut or players like youri holding out for waged that are beyond other clubs means.

I think the club are desperately trying to keep costs down while at the same time trying to raise as much revenue as possible. Pretty obvious but what will be the fallout?

It’s very unlikely that players will walk from very lucrative contracts and for the likes of Bertrand who has had a very decent career encompassing around 500 games, a career that has delivered a CL winner’s medal, a FA winners medal and a EL winners medal I just can’t see why , at age 32 , why he would walk from his last big contract it’s not as if he has wasted his career.

As for JT holding out for higher wages again why would he sign for less that his agent will know( and he will know) what would be on offer. His transfer value is dropping like a stone if he doesn’t sign a new deal and he hasn’t gone by the end of January 23 he will leave for a free.

As for what the club is doing or trying to do may well be all part of a cunning plan but the potential for devastation at the end of the current season when it’s possible that 6-7 players could leave for free and find fortune elsewhere is something that surely  can’t be part of a plan . If it is it’s one hellava gamble

I think you're missing the point. It's pretty obvious we can change our asking price, the issue is that players and players agents want certainty and not to be at a clubs whim. Which is why many are taking the power back by letting contracts run down, the power shifts back to them. Giving them certainty of a set figure, to consider a renewal of a contract is a genuine negotiating tool. IF we are still refusing them, then we could be missing a trick.

You seem very certain we're operating with methods that worked 5 years ago, you don't think the clubs approach has changed? There's plenty of evidence it has.

Yes that's why I put the word IF in capital letters and bold, because I'm so sure of it.

Clubs like Leicester have found an effective tactic of seeing off / ripping off the Sky 6 by asking for stupendous money for players.

Agents and Players will be seeing this and committing to shorter contracts, or only if a (current) market value release clause is included. Both of which harms the strategy of 'taxing' the Sky 6.

I'm sure the club are trying but we really need to see regular feed ins from the youth set up. Thus we don't have to spend £££ on second string shite like Bertrand with no resale value, leaving more wages and funds for the first 15.

I think everyone needs to chill out. 5 weeks to go to the end of the window and a bunch of players who are yet to be offered new contracts with some of them thinking about retiring.

And just a thought that if you're getting low balled for players on the periphery it doesn't half help if the buying party think you've got plenty of interest in star players for big fees.

Wouldn't the problems be:

1) Guessing what the right level at which to set the release clause.  Who would have guessed Kante would have been worth £60m+ when we bought him for tuppence.

2) If the release clause is set very high to guard against the Kante situation then the wages the player demands would be commensurate with it.
