Interesting article about Leipzig and their model of getting in and developing young talent and selling on for a profit, all whilst maintaining a decent level of success. We had the opportunity to be the English equivalent and fvcked it up

This went wrong when the talent we identified wasn't even good enough for our first team and their value went from 10's of millions to zero instead of increasing. 

 

Losing transfer fees and wages on duffers is where it all went wrong financially.

What went wrong was we'd maxed out wages and didn't have enough of a resource pool to be making MORE signings and MORE sales, even having to account for losses. We never had that conveyor belt operation.

 

Our success was 4-5 monumental returns / profit on our players.
