Various roads around Lutterworth are to be shut to traffic for the town's annual Film and Food Festival later this month. Warnings are now being issued to drivers ahead of any disruption caused.

The festival takes place on Sunday, June 22, with Leicestershire County Council's highways department warning that parts of Church Street and George Street in the town will be taken over by stalls and street entertainers for the festival.

The closures, which come into effect at 9am, will see parts of Bank Street and Church Gate closed until 9pm for the event. Parking will be temporarily banned in some areas of the town centre, as well.

Meanwhile, one-way systems will be suspended to help traffic move around the town. The one-way rules on Baker Street, Church Gate and Lancaster Close will be suspended, as well as the one-way stretch on Church Street between the junctions with Bank Street and Church Gate.

On the Visit Harborough website, the town council said of the film festival: "Lutterworth Town Council are thrilled to announce the return of this much-loved annual event! Church Street and George Street will be closed to traffic for a full day of fun in the town centre.

"Expect a packed line-up of entertainment, including street entertainers, a magician, face painting, a mobile bar, delicious food stalls plus an outdoor cinema in George Street car park."

This year on the 27th September marks the 200th anniversary of the first passenger railway journey on the Stockton Darlington railway, this is being celebrated across the country as RAIL200.
Today saw the first test of the Glenfield miniature railway which we are hoping to offer rides on this summer to celebrate RAIL200, if all goes well then we will be offering weekend trips up and down a 70 metre track.
This is a momentous occasion as it is the first time a tracked railway has been used in the tunnel since it closed to all railway traffic in 1966 and passenger trains haven’t run since 1928!
It has taken an enormous amount of effort by the members of the Leicestershire industrial history society and the Leicester museums technology association working out of Abbey pumping station over the past 18 months.
Look out for the advertisement for these trips here on Facebook next week and just to whet your appetite here is a video of today’s testing.
The loco is battery powered for everyone’s safety.

I don't see how families can afford these sort of prices. I guess they don't want thousands paying a few quid over fewer numbers stumping up £37.

Free bus journeys are coming to Leicestershire next month. People will be able to travel to key visitor attractions around the county without spending a penny on set days through August, Leicestershire County Council has said.

This includes trips to Leicester, Loughborough, Bradgate Park, Twycross Zoo, Fosse Park and the 1620s House and Gardens at Donington le Heath. The free tickets are open to everyone, with no age restrictions, the county authority added.

They will be valid every Saturday throughout August on services financially supported by the council, including its on-demand buses. A full list of the routes included can be found below.

Each of the services has been launched by the county council this year as part of its bus network review. The authority said it hoped the free tickets would “encourage residents to start using the new and redesigned bus services this summer and beyond”. The scheme is being funded through Government Bus Service Improvement Plan cash.

Councillor Charles Whitford, lead member for highways and transport, said: “Whether you’re using bus services to commute, attend an appointment, socialise or enjoy a fun day out, leaving the car at home is one of the easiest ways to say goodbye to traffic and parking stress. There is also the added benefit of cutting pollution and helping improve air quality in Leicestershire.

“This is a brilliant opportunity to travel completely for free in August and try out new and improved bus services in your area.”

A free pop-up “mini festival” suitable for families is coming to Leicester this weekend. Open Streets is to be held in collaboration with this year’s Re/Action Festival, which celebrates creativity, and is designed to encourage people to explore the city by walking, wheeling, or cycling.

Various activities will be taking place across multiple locations which can be explored by bike or on foot, including Town Hall Square, Clock Tower, and Gallowtree Gate. Attendees will be able to enjoy daring BMX stunts from sportsperson Danny Butler, as well as rickshaw rides, a group cycle through the city centre and live music from Leicester’s community samba band, Sambando.

The free event, which has been organised by local arts and cultural charity Art Reach, will also see a bike workshop among the events. Paul Steele, the creative director at Art Reach, said: “All of us at Art Reach are really looking forward to working with Open Streets this year.”

Water wars and maze coming to Leicestershire for Fantasy Farm event
Free pop-up beach opens at Fosse Park
Assistant city mayor Councillor Geoff Whittle added: “Open Streets is a fantastic series of mini-festivals and events that demonstrate how easy it is to get around our city by walking, wheeling or cycling.

“It’s great to see organisers teaming up with the Re/Action Festival for this weekend’s event and I’m sure visitors will find lots of fun, free family-friendly activities to explore and enjoy on foot or by bike.”

The free event takes place this Sunday (July 27) and runs from 1pm till 4pm. Re/Action festival will run in the city centre in areas such as Jubilee Square and Humberstone Gate, on Saturday, July 26, and also Sunday, from 11am till 5pm. A secure, free-to-use bike park will be located at Jubilee Square during the Re/Action Festival.

For those who can’t make it this weekend, Open Streets will be taking place on the last Sunday of the month throughout the summer. More information can be found online.

Big names announced for Leicestershire festival promising ‘non-stop anthems’
Artists from the 80s, 90s, and 00s will perform across three days

Jasmine Siddon Reporter

A Leicestershire music festival delivering “non-stop anthems” is to return, with big names from the 80s, 90s and 00s set to perform.

Back 2 Festival has announced British singer-songwriter and rapper Example as the headline act. Joining him on the line-up is Boyzlife, a duo featuring Boyzone’s Keith Duffy and Westlife’s Brian McFadden.

90s boyband East17 are also on the billing, as well as Vengaboys, Martin Kemp, and pop music band Right Said Fred, who formed in 1989.

Dance music fans can also get their fix, with Ultrabeat part of the lineup, alongside DJs including Ian Van Dahl, DJ Sash! and more.

Leicestershire trance and house music brand PaSSion will also host an arena, with the brand’s founder JFK performing, as well as Bryan Kearney, Craig Connelly and Factor B.

Back 2 Festival will take place at its original location of Cattows Farm in Heather, near Coalville. This will be the tenth year that the festival has taken place; however, organisers have said online that 2026 marks its final ever show.

More details about the three-day event will be released closer to the time, with super early-bird tickets already on sale. Example has been announced as Saturday’s headliner.

Here's a date for your diary! May 16th & 17th.

The 2026 Bus & Train spectacular at Quorn & Woodhouse railway station.

Organised by Leicester Transport Heritage Trust and the GCR.

It was a great day out last year with lots to see and free bus rides on the old buses I remember as a lad.

Please try and come along. 🙂
