Presumably any club with morales, and owned by non-Americans, could refuse to do this?

I sometimes feel this too, it really was miserable last season and its only getting worse.

And yet the NFL is way more of a level field in so many ways both off and on the field than the PL

Yes, they all make a huge amount of money, supported by the draft, salary caps, the franchise model, ability to move clubs around, etc.

I was thinking more about how the money is distributed based on revenues around the 'NFL' rather than individual clubs thus creating the financial level playing field. Yeah they're not perfect but they have some parts better than the PL.

 

I always believe that any organisation should be looking to adopt the best practices of similar organisations.

I'm not sure there are many features we would want to copy from NFL.  Clubs > Franchises, promotion and relegation > closed shop.  Open competition > geographic exclusivity, Players making the money > owners keeping the money, through salary caps.   I would certainly rip up PSR and replace it with loan limits and bank guarantees for funding.  Can't think of much else.

As I understand it all the NFL kit and club merchandise carries the NFL logo all proceeds plus sponsorship $ are then shared equally amongst the clubs, it may include media revenues I'm not sure. If the PL did that it would make a very big dent in the financial disparity between the rich 6 and the 14.
