Deathside Posted 12 April 2006 Author Posted 12 April 2006 It's just not going for St Pauli Oliver Can't just made a one handed stop on the line Although I have to say Holleraith just tipped a shot onto the post at the other end
Deathside Posted 12 April 2006 Author Posted 12 April 2006 I thought it was all over then Roy Makaay 1 on 1 with Holleraith - Makaay chipped Holleraith - but put it well over the bar
Deathside Posted 12 April 2006 Author Posted 12 April 2006 Bollooooocks Pizarro just scored from about 2 yds out from a corner St Pauli 0 - 2 bryan munchen (85 mins)
Deathside Posted 12 April 2006 Author Posted 12 April 2006 89mins St Pauli 0 - 3 Bryan munchen Pizarro again after a fortunate deflection off a St Pauli defender
Deathside Posted 12 April 2006 Author Posted 12 April 2006 Final Score: FC St Pauli 0 - 3 Bryan Munchen That's the sort of scoreline I expected before the game - but that scoreline really doesn't reflect the game - Kind of reminds me of Leicester's season opener 4-1 V sheff Utd Sad thing is that since the quarter final win against Werder Bremen, St Pauli have had quite a dip in form and now look like they will miss out on promotion back to Bundesliga II (Now in 5th place - 6 points off promotion place) - 7 games left
Deathside Posted 13 April 2006 Author Posted 13 April 2006 Whats So Good About St. Pauli?? In the context of this thread alone: Never mind your world cup - Get a load of the DFB-Pokal (German equivilent to the FA Cup) First the background for those who don't know - FC St Pauli play in Regionalliga Nord - This is classed in Germany as the 3rd Division - But is actually one of two 3rd divisions: Bundesliga I Bundesliga II Regionalliga Sud / Regionaliga Nord Regionalliga clubs have to pre-qualify for entry into the DFB Cup (For St Pauli this means through the ODDSET Cup) Anyways - Here's St Pauli's progress so far Round 1 FC St Pauli 3 - 2 Wacker Burghausen (Bundesliga II) - After Extra Time Round 2 FC St Pauli 4 - 0 VfL Bochum (Bundesliga II) Round 3 FC St Pauli 4 - 3 Hertha BSC Berlin (Bundesliga I) - After Extra Time (Hertha led 2-0 & 3-2) Quarterfinal - Wednesday 25 January FC St Pauli V Werder Bremen (Bundesliga I) And the good news - The game is live on German satellite channel ARD And in the wider scale of things: If you want to get an incite into St Pauli this is a good starting point Four-Four-Two St Pauli feature It takes a little while to download but it's worth it I hope that helps your understanding..
Jordan Posted 13 April 2006 Posted 13 April 2006 A bunch of guys in NYC were going crazy looking for a television feed of the semifinal, but were S.O.L. because the game wasn't on a commercial satellite feed. Not even the biggest soccer bars in the City could find a way to show the game. All-in-all, a great run by St. Pauli, and at least they'll have made a bit of much-needed cash.
Deathside Posted 28 April 2006 Author Posted 28 April 2006 So, was my running commentry biased? - Of course it was! - But here's Bryan Munchen's keeper Oliver Kahn's thoughts on the game WE WERE LUCKY TO WIN, SAYS KAHN Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn admitted his side rode their luck during their 3-0 win over third division St Pauli in the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal. Owen Hargreaves broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, before a late double from Claudio Pizarro secured a flattering scoreline for the Bundesliga leaders at the intimidating Millerntor-Stadion. Kahn said: "Hats off to St Pauli, a loss would not have been an embarrassment for us. You could not see a difference between the two teams at certain times." The stopper pulled off a string of fantastic saves to keep his side in the lead and he was relieved his defence managed to keep a clean sheet. "They deserved to score, they fought and ran for their lives, and who knows what would have happened had they equalised," he added. Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced last week that Kahn will be replaced as the country's number one by Arsenal's Jens Lehmann for the World Cup this summer. But Kahn strongly denied the decision meant the semi-final ranked as the biggest game of his season. He said: "Not at all. The topic is over and this was just a great footballing experience. This was a fantastic atmosphere, almost like in England. "You play a lot of Champions League matches with Bayern, which is great, but today was extraordinary - pure football." The Millerntor-Stadion is renowned for its atmosphere and Kahn believes any top European team would struggle to grind out a result there. "You could send Barcelona down here and I would guarantee you they would get in trouble. "It is a very special atmosphere. It is always tough no matter how good you are. If you4re a world class player and lack the willingness to fight, it will be very tough," he added Source
Deathside Posted 10 September 2006 Author Posted 10 September 2006 Unbelievable - After St Pauli's heroics last season in reaching the Semi-Final and losing a close game to eventual winners Brayern Munich.... They only go and get drawn against Brayern Munich in the first round this year - The game was yesterday 31 Mins: St Pauli 1 - 0 Brayern Munich (Timo Schultz) 46 Mins: St Pauli 1 - 1 Brayern Munich (Lukas Podolski) Full Time Score St Pauli 1 - 1 Brayern Munich Extra Time 92 Mins: Sent Off - Ferreira Lucio (Brayern Munich) 105 Mins: St Pauli 1 - 2 Brayern Munich (Patrik Borger - Own Goal) 120 Mins: Sent Off - Fabio Morena (St Pauli) Final Score (AET) St Pauli 1 -2 Brayern Munich Last season's cup run co-incided with a collapse in St Pauli's league form which cost them promotion back into the professional leagues (Bundesliga II) - So looking on the bright side there can be no cup distraction this year On the downside losing to an extra time own goal by the goalkeeper (from a cross that was drifting out of play for a goalkick) is a bit of a sickener - Would St Pauli have beaten Munich on penalties???
lcfc_jme Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 anybody can beat anybody on penalties, all depends on how your goalkeeper goes about intimidating the opposing players, and how well the penalty-takers deal with pressure, as perfectly demonstrated by England in the World Cup
