After last night I'm optimistic

Before I start this, I want to say, no, I'm not on drugs, but I saw positives come out of last night's game.

The few of us who went last night, saw another new low, that is to be expected, and Micky clearly has to go. Another inept tactical display by Micky made our team look like amateurs who got played off the park by a rubbish team who were down to ten men for a long period of the game. What's more, during half-time in extra time, Micky didn't even leave the dug-out to gee the players up, or discuss tactics with them. As a leader of the team, I find that very surprising. Contrast that with Preston's manager who outmanoeuvred us all night. He was on the pitch, motivating the players and discussing how to beat us. I will be very surprised if Micky is still our manager by the end of next week.

So where are the positives?

Well, when Tommy Wright got injured, Scowy got pushed upfront, and we played with two wingers, providing our team with width, which did stretch Preston, and resulted in us taking the lead. I believe that Scowy could be our own version of Niall Quinn, partnering Connolly up front to form a partnership similar to the Quinn-Phillips one which proved very successful at Sunderland. What people forget about Quinny is that he is good in the air and with the ball at his feet. I think him alongside Connolly (who I feel shares similarities in his play with Phillips), with 2 good wingers whipping the balls into the box, would actually shoot us to promotion. I mean even Nathan Blake scored last night from wing-play knocking good balls into the box.

Not only that, playing two orthodox wingers would allow Williams to do what he does best, and spray the ball to the channels (which he showed glimpses of last night). Granted, he needs to improve his work-rate, but a new manager could deal with that.

Dare I even say, and I know I will get slaughtered for this, but I see Matt Heath as a potential captain for this club. As he's getting older and filling out, he's beginning to turn into a big uncompromising centre-back. If/when Stearman makes the team (realistically in 2 years, when he has filled) there could be a solid defensive partnership. In the meantime, I think Keown and Heath should do ok. Either way, I do not want Dabizas near the team. He is suspect, everytime he plays. I know Heath is too, but he is young and is learning, and it is no surprise that his distribution is poor when he plays the tactics the manager wants. A good manager could sort his distribution problem out. If Tony Adams could turn into a cultured defender, then Heath will be able to pass the ball to a blue shirt along the ground, at the very least.

The main weaknesses of our team is the flanks. We need some wingers, and better full-backs (wasn't impressed with Makin last night). We also need a manager to get the best out of our midfield.

So where does this leave us. I believe that if we get a good manager in, we will soon shoot up the league, for we have the players to do it. That is why I left the ground pissed off, but happy in the knowledge that a new manager will be inheriting a team that he can do something with. I firmly believe a match is decided before a ball has been kicked, due to the tactics and preparation work put in beforehand. This is Micky's weakness, and is why our players are underperforming and undermotivated.

A new manager, a new style of play, a newly motivated Leicester, with the passionate fans that we have, will show this league who we are. It will not matter if opposing teams stick 11 men behind the ball or kick lumps out of us. The blue shirt will be restored to its place of pride. All the board needs to do is bring in a new (good) manager and bring in this new era.

I also want to say let Martin George be in charge of finding a new manager. As a chairman, he wasn't too bad for us, and always found good managers (Little, Mcghee, O'Neill)

I am right in thinking that Keown has not actually been released yet, but is on the transfer list. If Micky was to leave, I see no reason why Keown could not return to the first-team and play an important role for the club

For some strange reason i agree with what your saying breadandcheese.(nice name) But Micky was forced to play this way. with no suspensions or injuries MA would play 4-4-2 everytime with the team we know. Ie dublin (crap) connolly (crap) scarecrow right wing blah blah blah

We all have forgot that we have got a good squad of players and all we realistically need is a new manager with new ideas, style of play and tactics and we could be dangerous. Width is the key to success for a team like us and I am desperate for Scowy to play upfront, he's the best target man we have got at this club.
