Dawson Gets The Call

Young City midfielder Stephen Dawson has been called up to the Republic of Ireland under 21 squad for their European qualification game against France on Friday night (8pm).

Dawson, who travelled with the Leicester first team squad for their pre-season trips to Finland and Scotland over the summer, has been a regular feature in the City reserve side this season.

A product of the club's Youth Academy, Dawson originally joined up with the Foxes in 2001 after being spotted by a scout playing for Portmarnock FC.

The 18-year-old has previously represented his country at under 17, 18 and 19 level.

Academy Director Jon Rudkin said: "Stephen had a terrific pre-season and he has a great work ethic. The call-up is just reward for him and hopefully he will gain great experience from it.

"He knows where his pluses are around the pitch and he also knows what aspects of his game he needs to improve on. He is a very determined individual and we wish him all the best for his trip."

Meanwhile, Keith Gillepsie has received a late call up to the Northern Ireland squad for their World Cup qualification game against Azerbaijan on Saturday (5.30pm).

Gillespie made a second half appearance as a substitute in City's 3-2 defeat at the hands of Preston North End in the Carling Cup on Monday night.

At least some people are recognising that he's a good talent :) Hopefully our own management will take note...

Great news for the lad. Its a shame his own club couldnt give him a reward for his performances.

They will soon, it's almost impossible we will employ another manager with Adams exact attributes.

Well done to the lad, all he needs to do is get into the 1st team which aint going to happen with Adams here. Adams out, young guns in!

Fantastic news. :)

Dawson has really impressed me from what I've seen of him. It's a shame that we have a manager whose team selections are generally based on experience rather than performance.
