god save the queen is the british national anthem , with wales scotland and ireland all having their own anthems is it time for england to use a differnt anthem . would land of hope and glory or jeruselum be a better anthem for us to show our identity as english rather than british ?

Not sure on this one the england cricket team used jeruselem as there anthem and national anthems are reminicant of national pride.

I wouldnt change it as it has been used for ages and i for one am proud to have a queen so i think the national anthem should reflect this.

I think tho that the anthem is a bit crap as my mate from america keeps on saying.

But then i remind him that the star spangled banner is originated from a english pub song sung by drunks as a farewell to england :D .

Also i say that if it wasnt for us brits they wouldnt even be here :ph34r:

Keep up the good work :thumbup:

Jeruselem is a rousing tune and certainly gets the hairs on the back of my neck up - God save the Queen doesnt, and its bloody British as Sparky says. I wonder how many 'English' people will be celebrating St Pats day above their own Saints day :rolleyes:

thanks to lush for:

jerusalem along with the lyrics

http://www.dump.com/qcpz/

And did those feet in ancient time

Walk upon England's mountains green

And was the holy lamb of God

On England's pleasant pastures seen

And did the countenance divine

Shine forth upon our clouded hills

And was Jerusalem builded here

Among those dark Satanic mills

Bring me my bow of burning gold

Bring me my arrows of desire

Bring me my spears o'clouds unfold

Bring me my chariot of fire

I will not cease from mental fight

Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand

'Til we have built Jerusalem

In England's green and pleasant land

We should use FIFA to force Scotland and Wales to play their "official" national anthem which is, of course, God Save The Queen. Ultimately though, we need a UK national football team instead.

Failing that, how about 'This Is England' by the Clash as our national anthem?

Jerusulum is a billiant piece of music with fantastic lyrics about pride and the will to make this imperfect country the it possibly could be. Could there be a more noble form of patriotism than that?

Far better than the outdated, God Save the Queen. I don't believe in God and have no interesting in the monarchy. Landy of Hope and Glory is Imperialist bollocks that should be left for the BNP.

I'm not a supporter of the monarchy like a lot of people, so why should I sing god save the queen?

Jerusalem does nothing for me either though.

Jerusalem is a rousing piece of music but would no one else find it weird having the title of the English national anthem as a place that is clearly not in England??

I vote for 'I vow to thee my country!'

Another exceptional hymn and very patriotic which would represent the English quite nicely I think.

I vow to thee, my countryâ€â€all earthly things aboveâ€â€

Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;

The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,

That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;

The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,

The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.

And there’s another country, I’ve heard of long agoâ€â€

Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;

We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;

Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;

And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,

And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.

"New Jerusalem" is mentioned in the Bible as what the world will be like when God returns. The perfect place to live, a return to eden. What Blake is getting at is that we, the people, should work together to build that for ourselves in our undeniably beautiful land.

I will not cease from mental fight

Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand

'Til we have built Jerusalem

In England's green and pleasant land

I'll say again that this message of hope and aspiration for this imperfect country is the sort of patriotism we can all be proud of and it is amore noble message than boasting about millitary victories or our imperial past. :englandsmile4wf:

I think it should be Land of hope and glory, or Jerusalem.

Both songs are brilliant and get me going everytime unlike the national anthem.

We have to remember that this country is the greatest in the world and the people are the greatest and we should be proud of it!!!!

I LOVE ENGLNAD

I went to the funeral of Carol Millidge, wife of Stuart who operates the PA system on Leicester City Reserves nights recently.

Truly special lady and it was extraordinary to see the church at Nuneaton Crematorium so packed the overspill filled the isles and they ran out of condolency cards.

It was the most touching of services with a specially written poem of great poignancy and the sort of tributes that are only reserved for someone especially close to people's hearts.

And as part of it, the uplifting strains of "Jerusalem. There was hardly a dry eye to be seen and afterwards I said that hymn should be our National Anthem. It was so inspirational. So from the heart and such a statement of hope for the future of our precious England.

RIP Carol. One of life's givers and with a smile to light the gloomiest of days. God Bless. :)

Jeruselem is immense and should be our anthem.

I hear the anthems of Wales, Scotland, Ireland and France during the 6 nations etc. and they are all rousing tunes and make you feel passionate (should you be of one of those nations).

God Save The Queen is not only against several of my principles but also a total shite tune.

Get rid.
