werestandingup_weresittingdown Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 Anyone else notice in the sunday papers that we are interested in andy johnson from WBA??? Apparently we tried to get him on loan but WBA werent interested at the the time. End of the season will be a different story though. At 31 he's getting on a bit but I certainly think he could do a job in the middle of the park for us.
Sparky Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 how many times we been linked to him ! o neill was after him here . id take him , good player
midtablethatsallwewilleverbe Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 bit old like you said but experiance is needed in such a youthful side like we have.
Solihullfox Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 The man will be booked more often than Joey !!!! No thanks, past it and does not fit in with our progression.
Thracian Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 How does he fit the s0-called Leicester City profile of young, keen and hungry. If Levi Porter is sensible and works really hard on his strength he's the sort of lad who could play midfield. Loads of skills, loads of stamina, good passer and can play out wide too. Twelve months ago I thought he wouldn't make it because he was too easily knocked off the ball and a little bit head-down-on-the-ball but he seems to have improved in this department and totally outclassed that 26-year-old Finnish trialist he had as his midfield partner against Spurs Reserves. Porter will last 90 minutes and the difference between him and Johnson is that, being a teenager he might be worth something as time goes on whereas Johnson would be another ageing non-asset. I don't know but I think Porter was lifted by Wesolowski pushing through to the first team. If he can develop Weso's tenacity then, with his skill, the boy's another winner, a potential Batty or Draper plus skills. Let's go forward instead of hankering after unsuccessful teams' cast-offs.
holly Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 what about gradel?? where does he play? he seems to mentioned alot in reserve reports!

I think thats going a bit far thracian!!! We cant have a side completely full young players. Just because a player isnt young, doesnt always mean he isnt hungry. So he might be worth nothing once we finish with him but who cares?? To get out of this division we need some experience around the place as well as youth. Going for him certainly wouldnt imply we werent going forward either. As great as it sounds, i dont think porter is ready to take his place in the midfield of a side who will HOPEFULLY be pushing on next year. We have youth in mccarthy, stearman, weso, sheehan, Ogrady etc. We also need some experience in there too. Someone who has done it before. Johnson would be ideal Remember thracian, you cant win anything with kids!!!

Giv The Yoiungsters a go, there's nothing to be lost at this stage of the season, the likes of dodds, should be given a crack, he bangs them in at most levels he plays

Such a legendary comment PS: I have no problem with an older head so long as he is better than what we've got and full of enthusiasm. If not I wouldn't bother bogging the kids down. I've too many memories of the MDV's and the Nathan Blakes and the Alan Rogers' thanks.

The likes of Rogers, Blake, Hignett, Howey etc will hopefully never be seen again. An experienced, tenacious, hard working central midfield player however...............get him on board. Young lads like Weso need some experience to learn from and almost fall back on. If all our centre mid hopes fall on young weso's shoulders, it really could stifle him. With an experienced head like johnson in the engine room with him however, he could flourish and really shine.
spirefox Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 Johnson is also very good in the air,a big weakness in our side.
Muz Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 Johnson is also very good in the air,a big weakness in our side. Deffo , Johnson has always impressed me when I've seen him play. Him and Weso would make a good partnership I reckon
filbertway Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 We need some good older heads in the team and he seems like hew could do a job for us
Foxes_Wizard_Striker Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 Is he a winger? as long he is good at crossing, dribbling, passing and shooting and have to energy to move around the pitch unlike Syalla and is free, I'll take him!

No, i thought he was a Central Midfielder. He is starting for West Brom v Spurs Tonight. Intersting to see how he gets on.
Syko Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 So if he's starting why are we going to be able to have him
Glen_Fox Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 what about gradel?? where does he play? he seems to mentioned alot in reserve reports! I may be wrong but i believe he plays, or one of his positions, is right wing
riggyswfc Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 Also here... We're after him aswell... But if he wants wages above £200 a week it looks like he's off to you!
