Rincewind Posted 12 April 2006 Posted 12 April 2006 Good thread this It's true the OS gets more than its fair share of abusive posters. The thing is the worst offenders number very few and appear in various disguises. The 'target' is limited to one or two people and it is usually others that respond giving the poster the attention they seek. I've done it myself dispute vowing not to reply to them. Strange but I feel I don't have to defend anyone on here. Somebody usually posts a reply which makes doing that pointless. The OS certainly needs some sort of moderating. Because there is no 'Sticky' with guidelines some people think they can post what they like even if its perceived by some to be libellous or racist. They defend this by quoting the freedom of speech line. If anyone mentions the excessive use of text speech or shouting in CAPITAL LETTERS they are regarded as a member of a cliche group and start several threads on how bossy the regulars are. The technical problems are also annoying. I keep thinking it is shut down so they can update the site. Fat chance. I don't use TB much. By the time I've looked here (which is first) and the OS and my MB and its no posts in the last 24 months its time to go back work. But I do like the way you can add instant links pictures and a smiley. The editing and quote is also a good feature that the OS lacks. The reason why the OS does seem like a club sometimes is because it is old fashioned and only the old-timers can bear it and it has become a habit for them. Me included.
