Ric Flair Posted 3 November 2004 Posted 3 November 2004 After watching last night's performance there was plenty of positives to take but then there was the usual mistakes that leave me bewildered. Luckily we have a new manager and that will bring a new era, i'm so impressed with Craig Levein and I know that if the players don't perform for him i'll be embarrassed as Levein deserves a good bunch of players. I think the best thing Micky Adams ever did was only sign these journeymen on one year deals so that Levein can dispose of them in the summer at the latest. I have heard that Levein won't have any hesitation in paying players contracts up and getting rid, now even though that sounds good we have to remember that is money lost really. If we can get rid of a few players from a pool of people like (Dabizas, Dublin, Elliott, Gillespie, Blake, Gemmill and Benjamin) in the next month or so and bring in one or two of Levein's own players then it will set the foundations nicely for a push towards the play-offs. At the end of the season we have got Nalis, Dabizas, Dublin, Elliott, Gillespie, Blake, Benjamin, Walker, Scowcroft, Wilcox, Makin, Keown and Pressman all out of contract. Now all of our dead wood is included in there really, the only players who I think hinder us who are under contract for longer are perhaps Matt Heath and Jordan Stewart, but both are young and both might well perform well in a successful team. If we can try and keep Walker, Scowcroft and Nalis, then there's 10 players disposed of. It might take a while to piece together 10 new players but instead of rashly signing players, Levein can identify his targets during this season and then snap them up in the summer. Hearts have alot of players out of contract too and I don't think it would be a bad thing if Levein bought two or three of them here. I would be happy to see Alan Maybury, Webster and De Vries down here. Levein is a big fan of Ricardo Fuller and if he doesn't get a sniff at Pompey perhaps a loan deal could occur if we can get rid of Blake or Dublin or both!! I am excited about the new era and the possibility of us building a new team, but slowly, slowly is the key. We want to be able to build a rapport with our team and the new players and not like it's been where players have come and gone constantly, it feels fake when that happens. Levein will also be looking to introduce a number of our youth players and I believe within the next year Richard Stearman, Stephen Dawson, James Wesolowski, Louis Dodds, Levi Porter and Richard Graham will all be in Craig's plans. So even though we will be losing alot of players in the summer, I think it's essential we buy quality rather than quantity as we have some great academy players who can add numbers and depth to the squad. Next season I would like to see a squad similar to: Walker Gordon Canero Maybury Stearman Heath Zander Diamond Webster Taitto Stewart Partridge Wesolowski Dawson Gudjonsson Williams Nalis Porter McFadden Connolly Scowcroft Morris Dodds Wright De Vries Mutu
Fox 4 Life Posted 3 November 2004 Posted 3 November 2004 good post, but MUTU LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also i would like to see keown stay for another year for his experience and to help the likes of stearman etc!

Ric Flair Posted 3 November 2004 Author Posted 3 November 2004 The squad you posted is that if we get promotion to the prem or if we stay in the championship. 32890 Championship with the exception of Mutu!!
King Kyle lcfc Posted 3 November 2004 Posted 3 November 2004 Tats a great team for the championship but ithink it realy would struggle in the prem any way be optimistic hoof "Say we are goin up, Say we are goin up!"
Ric Flair Posted 3 November 2004 Author Posted 3 November 2004 Tats a great team for the championship but ithink it realy would struggle in the prem any way be optimistic hoof"Say we are goin up, Say we are goin up!" 32894 It would struggle in the premiership, but it's a young team and with Levein in charge they would want to play together and gel as a team. You add a few quality names to that team in the premiership and they you have it. You look at us under O'Neill we didn't really have a team that stood out and said 'we are good enough for a top half finish for 4 years in the premiership' we did it through working well together and only signing two or three players each season.
Muz Posted 3 November 2004 Posted 3 November 2004 You never know no if nobody wants to take Mutu on this maybe is only option! (Then i woke up)
Leicester_Mad Posted 3 November 2004 Posted 3 November 2004 You never know no if nobody wants to take Mutu on this maybe is only option!(Then i woke up) 32912 so Arsenal and liverpool are "nobodies"?
Guest Daniel Posted 3 November 2004 Posted 3 November 2004 Mutu aint no way near good enough for Arsenal. Would be good down here.
Muz Posted 3 November 2004 Posted 3 November 2004 Did i say that! I meant if nobody wants him at the time!
Ash Posted 3 November 2004 Posted 3 November 2004 Mutu aint no way near good enough for Arsenal.Would be good down here. 32934 Course he is , He is easily on par with players like Ljunberg,Pires,Fabregas ....

Scarby Posted 4 November 2004 Posted 4 November 2004 No matter what Mutu has done he will always be a class player! He has dissppinted but you cant take the skill out of a player, i believe he will want it even more when he comes back, Aresholes or anyone else he will be class
Anish Posted 4 November 2004 Posted 4 November 2004 Going back to Hoof's original post, I think you're getting a bit carried away there! Players like Mutu wouldn't even know where Leicester is (despite having played and scored here last season), so he is out of the question. And then there's players like Partridge and McFadden that you mentioned - sure they might be good players but I don't think we could get them.

McFadden is having abit of a nightmare at Everton and Levein being scottish and quality at getting the best out of managers might well persuade him. We'd get him for £500,000.
natas Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 I don't think we could get Diamond either, unless we were in the premiership, he's pretty highly thought of.

He is highly rated and we possibly couldn't afford him, but I would like him here and he'd be gettable if we got promoted.

I've heard good things about him, how old is he? Perhaps we could do a swap deal for our very own young promising defender Matt Heath.
