davieG Posted 23 June 2006 Posted 23 June 2006 From the Blue Army Site * Police have launched a formal investigation into allegations of financial irregularities at Derby County. Suggestions of impropriety first surfaced in mid-April with police launching a review of the circumstances surrounding a takeover of the club in October 2003. The inquiries centred around how a £375,000 commission fee was allegedly shared out. Derbyshire Police have now confirmed a formal investigation has begun. A police spokesman said: ''Derbyshire Police can confirm a review has been undertaken in respect of alleged financial irregularities within Derby County Football Club. "The alleged financial irregularities are related to the takeover of Derby County Football Club in October 2003. "It can be confirmed an investigation has been launched and that this is still in its early stages, therefore no further information can be released at this stage." There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing surrounding a separate takeover of the club by a consortium of local businessmen during late April this year.

nhfox Posted 23 June 2006 Posted 23 June 2006 Another article from the Derby Evening Telegraph: Police launch Derby County investigation Police have stepped up their inquiries into financial irregularities surrounding the takeover of Derby County Football Club two years ago. The county force, which had been carrying out a review of the situation following allegations, confirmed today that it had launched a formal investigation. A national newspaper reported in April that the force was responding to claims that a £375,000 commission was alleged to have been paid following the takeover in 2003. Jeremy Keith, John Sleightholme and Steve Harding became Derby directors after the club was bought from administrative receivers for just £3, backed by a £15m loan from a Panamanian-registered company, ABC Corporation. Andrew Mackenzie, who was Derby's finance director when Lionel Pickering owned the club and was then retained by the trio, reportedly told The Guardian that former director of football Murdo Mackay had suggested seeking assistance from a company called Streamline Management during the takeover. He said Streamline was then paid a £375,000 brokerage fee. Mr Mackay said this morning: "I will co-operate fully with Derbyshire police in their pursuance of any investigation."
