davieG Posted 24 June 2006 Posted 24 June 2006 All that went before was for political expedience, allowing less advanced (football wise) countries get some experience and jockying for position by the 'bigger' nations. It all kicks off for real at 16:00 no more playing for draws, no more Mr Nice guy, now we'll see who the best officials really are and who is the smartest, not necessarily the best teams. Come on England, you're not the best just prove you're the smartest.
MC Prussian Posted 24 June 2006 Posted 24 June 2006 Can't believe how stupid the Swedish are playing. Where's the defense? It's like a Swiss cheese, an awful lot of holes. They can't just rely on Larsson, Ibrahimovic and Ljungberg only. The entire Swedish team has played pure crap so far and the red card for Lucic was well-deserved, two unbelieveably stupid fouls.

Spot on
davieG Posted 24 June 2006 Author Posted 24 June 2006 Certainly not one of the best officials, another game ruined by an incompetent over zealous referee, and with the smile he produced with the red card bent? or biased?. No more Mr Nice Guys either Podolski may have scored two goals but anyone that applauds a player being sent off especially one that was so undeserved gets no admiration from me. Sweden obviously don't know the meaning of playing smart. Not really interested in the second half, 2-0 down may have still been worth it but with that outragious sending off and down to 10 men game over.

Neither were yellow cards in my opinion, the first wan't even a foul as he definitely got the ball first and in the second Klose had lost control of the ball and was fouling equally.
Luke_Leicester_Lad Posted 24 June 2006 Posted 24 June 2006 Larsons just missed a penalty, what a mess up he made of that!
Jay Posted 24 June 2006 Posted 24 June 2006 Neither were yellow cards in my opinion, the first wan't even a foul as he definitely got the ball first and in the second Klose had lost control of the ball and was fouling equally. The second wasn't even a foul and the ref had no intention of sending him off until the german player said something to him on his way past and then he decided to send himself off!! I think that's what some might call favouring the home side!!
shen Posted 24 June 2006 Posted 24 June 2006 It was a harsh sending off, however I'm surprised Jönson only got a yellow for that horrific barge into the back of Ballack! Reckless and dangerous! So whichever way one looks at it, Sweden were right to finish with 10 men. Having said that, the Germans were really buzzing and they should give anyone a match on that performance!
MC Prussian Posted 24 June 2006 Posted 24 June 2006 The referee was clearly biased, especially with the Lucic Affair: The first yellow card was none, as the German player trips over Lucic (who just played the ball), the second simply ridiculous... Since when does holding somebody back guarantee a(nother) yellow? Lucic wasn't even the last man in line... Only thanks to Frings and Podolski did the referee grab the card. Personally, both Germans should be shot for this behaviour! Have to agree with the Jonsson bodycheck on Ballack in the 2nd, though. That was clearly inacceptable! There was also another incident in the first where Podolski was fouled by a Swede, who stepped on his right foot intentionally! Sweden was too intimidated by the Germans (& the home crowd), was too nervous (missed penalty), clueless and the defensive display horrible! Don't like the Shermans, but with this Swedish side working against itself from the start, they somehow deserved to progress to the Quarters. Sweden simply disappointed me a lot. Isaaksson saved them being ripped apart. Best Tre Krona on the pitch.
shen Posted 24 June 2006 Posted 24 June 2006 Oh and did anyone catch Metzelder losing his boot and Larsson kicking it away? Class
dandannieldanok Posted 24 June 2006 Posted 24 June 2006 Oh and did anyone catch Metzelder losing his boot and Larsson kicking it away? Class That was pretty funny
davieG Posted 25 June 2006 Author Posted 25 June 2006 Question for Carlos Simon What's so funny about your mistakes or could it be you're thinking of some money you've just made?
