Alexikokopops Posted 28 June 2006 Posted 28 June 2006 Ah, thankfully I'm a student And I live in Leamington Spa, not Coventry (like some kids do), when I'm at Warwick Uni. So yunno, I'm clear on two counts
Guest Posted 29 June 2006 Posted 29 June 2006 My mother in law is a Cov fan, but really resents this.
breadandcheese Posted 29 June 2006 Posted 29 June 2006 Excuse my ignorance, but why are the council bailing Coventry out with council tax money? Did/do Leicester City Council give us any tax money?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 29 June 2006 Posted 29 June 2006 Maybe when we go up there in a couple of months time Alex and you (acting in the interests of your mother-in-law) can claim the place. I believe all you need is a flag. We can plant it in the centre spot after we stick five past them. Be nice for the reserves to have somewhere to play.
Ultra Posted 29 June 2006 Posted 29 June 2006 Did/do Leicester City Council give us any tax money? No. The previous board felt that they could build the Way with our own funds. They didn't plan for the possibility that the management would blow those funds by getting us relegated. But imagine what WE could do with a £3 million handout!
Daggers Posted 29 June 2006 Author Posted 29 June 2006 If I lived in Cov I would consider this a 'not paying my CT and will go to prison' issue. Bonus: Some rich person always pays the protesters CT = top tip for those of you wanting to get away with non-payment
breadandcheese Posted 29 June 2006 Posted 29 June 2006 The council own the arena, Cov are merely tenants. Thanks for the info. Can't help feel we should have organised a similar arrangement with Leicester City Council. I know in Italy that very few clubs own their own grounds, with municipalities owning them instead.

I know The Cobblers always stated that their aim was to buy Sixfields - don't know if they have or not yet - maybe a Northampton Fox could confirm?

Still council but they have bought a 150-year lease.
SystonFox Posted 29 June 2006 Posted 29 June 2006 we'll take the place as our own on that friday august night cannot wait
Guest Posted 29 June 2006 Posted 29 June 2006 Thanks for the info. Can't help feel we should have organised a similar arrangement with Leicester City Council. I know in Italy that very few clubs own their own grounds, with municipalities owning them instead. To be honest, I think I'd risk going it alone. Cov are stuffed financially; the money they got from selling Highfield Road went years ago, and they have no assets. Maybe when we go up there in a couple of months time Alex and you (acting in the interests of your mother-in-law) can claim the place.I believe all you need is a flag.
