Babylon Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 "a quarter of the senior squad who will have nominal financial sell-on value." Is there any guarantee that getting a young player on a free from a lower division club would mean we had any sell on value... NO!! It's as risky getting one of them as it is an older player. You seem to have a Micky Adams style fetish regarding players ages but this time at the other end of the spectrum. We have one of the youngest squads in the league!!!! Ask ANY top level manager and they will tell you that you need a few experienced heads about the place. Two 32 year olds and a 30 year old!!! Goalkeepers can play on much later so even though they may be 32 they could play for another 4/6 years. Maybe you should be picky on the quality of those players rather than the age. Tiatto does not represent good value IMO, he is the same age as johnson but I think he WILL be good value for money. The age of our squad is not a problem. The quality of the players is.
Babylon Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 To drag us all into another pointles debate about our "young and hungry" squad our negative tatics, lack of wingers and Danny Tiatto..... Perhaps gay rights as well. There may be some slateing of Tony Blair at some point as well. Don't forget Sheehan at some point.
stez Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 You may mock but if the goalkeeper ends up making a fourth it will be potentially a third of the team or a quarter of the senior squad who will have nominal financial sell-on value. If you feel that represents good use of limited resources, fine. Once more we disagree. Time will bring the truth and I sincerely hope it is you that are right and that at least three of the Fathertime Four prove to be valuable and reliable servants. i'll bet west ham were bloody annoyed with teddy sheringhams performances last season. now non of our over 30's are in his class, but it goes to show (as you ignored earlier because it didn't sit with your argument) that if you blend youth and experience the thats the way forward; your youth gains experience, the previously experienced players move on or retire, more youth comes in etc it's not that difficult to work out really is it?
Guest Posted 3 July 2006 Posted 3 July 2006 If you're old enough, you're good enough. And if you're good enough, you're old enough.

Who the hell said I had anything against Teddy Sherington? I've said loads of times I'll make exceptions for any rule, but that's one of the eternal problems at Leicester now we've got no dough - the fact that we never sign any Sheringham types any more. How Tiatto, Douglas and Brevett types ere or are ever going to benefit our young players rather than take squad places which they could be occupying I'm sure you'll explain. Talking of West Ham I think I cited them as an example of the way forward last close season - with their commitment to positive, attacking football.

I hope they all play well but don't see either Douglas or Tiatto as quality and haven't seen enough of Johnson. I agree 100% about the quality and have long felt that far too many of our signings are just not good enough, particularly in an attacking sense.
