lookwhaticando Posted 23 August 2006 Share Posted 23 August 2006 The Welsh part of the proposed Maybury deal was just a rumour... or it might have even just been a suggestion on FT that got taken to be rumour regarding the deal. Either way, it was never official that Welsh was part of any deal for Maybury.
DaveyJ Posted 23 August 2006 Share Posted 23 August 2006 Good news. I wasn't inspired by him when he came on loan before.

If that's true the board are living in a dream world. No club in the world would pay half a million pounds for Maybury in the current situation. No premiership club would be interested and there are equally average players available everywhere for free. If Sunderland would have given us £250k the board should have snapped their hands off, or if Maybury is a core part of the plans for the team they should never have considered selling him at all but holding out for more cash than is realistic makes no sense whatsoever and now we're left with a player who was obviously seen as surplus to requirements, his salary to pay and no cash at all - good move! I think you're missing the point he was only surplus to requirements at more than £250k us asking for £500k is standard negotiating tactics, nothing wrong with that as RK & the board obviously value him at more than £250k even if some on here don't.
