SystonFox Posted 28 August 2006 Posted 28 August 2006 last night a few bombs have gone off in turkey, 1 in marmaris centre on a dolmus (a mini bus) and 10 british are injured, 4 serious but no life threatening. i am meant to be going to marmaris on friday morning for a week. what should i do? my head says go but my heart says ring co-op travel, demand a refund or even better switch destinations to greece or cyprus or something just not turkey at all costs. this is unlikely however and i really want to go away this yr.

Why is it because you don't want to change or you don't think the Coop will change it for you for free?
SystonFox Posted 28 August 2006 Author Posted 28 August 2006 i dont really want to change as its such short notice, and i dont think the co-op will "co-operate" in helping me changing it for free or a small charge, they will just say something like tough cop kid, cancel your old holiday and buy a new one. ive already booked the time off work for this and i only have to go into work tomorrow, when really i need to sort this out if the travel agents arent open today.
JadeFalcon Posted 28 August 2006 Posted 28 August 2006 for some reason i thought this topic title said mamaries

I know what you are saying but you could be anywhere in the world today & get caught up in something similar. There are fatal car crashes every day, but does that stop anyone from driving?

Go but use the Hotel facilities to the max, stay away from tourist hot spots etc etc.
Sparky Posted 28 August 2006 Posted 28 August 2006 i went marmaris last year and i think its a quality place . check what the home office say , they may advise against travelling. more bombs have gone off there today , 3 killed in a bomb in atlanya
Random Burglar Posted 29 August 2006 Posted 29 August 2006 Co-op will not give you a refund untill the home office declare the area a no-go zone. Currently they are just advising people that terrorrist attacks are likely and to be careful.
Katy Posted 29 August 2006 Posted 29 August 2006 Good advice from Babylon there. If you do end up going take bloody care!
Fleckney Fox Posted 29 August 2006 Posted 29 August 2006 it happened last year with 2 bombs in turkey, but i still took my family to marmaris and it was sound. if you dont go the bastards will be the winners..

OBO Posted 29 August 2006 Posted 29 August 2006 A few of my mates are in the same position as this, and they're not really sure what to do either. They've gone off to the travel agent today to see what they can do, I think like SystonFox they're ideally after a partial refund of an offer of an exchange so they can go somewhere else, but they're not holding out much hope. As far as I know the official home office statement is something along the lines of: It's fine to go so long as you're vigilant. I think because of this the travel agents will be pretty tough on people wanting refunds or whatever. Hope you get it sorted out though mate.
